Bloodstream infection in cancer patients; susceptibility profiles of the isolated pathogens, at Khartoum Oncology Hospital, Sudan.

Introduction: Bloodstream infection is one of the major causes of mortality in patients with malignancies. This study aimed to determine the local profile of blood culture isolates and their antibiotic sensitivities in febrile neutropenic cancer patients and to decide if any modifications to antibiotics policies are necessary.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional study conducted between the first of October to the end of December 2018 at Khartoum Oncology Hospital, Sudan.

Osteoarthritis complications and the recent therapeutic approaches.

The accelerated prevalence of osteoarthritis (OA) disease worldwide and the lack of convenient management led to the frequent search for unprecedented and specific treatment approaches. OA patients usually suffer from many annoying complications that negatively influence their quality of life, especially in the elderly. Articular erosions may lead eventually to the loss of joint function as a whole which occurs over time according to the risk factors presented in each case and the grade of the disease.

Biosynthesis of gold nanoparticles for the treatment of osteoarthritis alone or in combination with Diacerein in a rat model.

Gold (Au) compounds were used as an effective therapeutic agent for various inflammatory diseases; however, the use of Au compounds becomes limited because of its association with several side effects. Hence, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were developed as a new option for the medical proposes. However, the safety evaluation of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) in osteoarthritis (OA) treatment remains vague.

Sex determination from chest measurements in a sample of Egyptian adults using Multislice Computed Tomography.

Background: In forensic sciences to determine one's sex is quite important during the identity defining stage. The reliability of sex determination depends on the completeness of the remains and the degree of sexual dimorphism inherent in the population. Computed Tomography is the imaging modality of choice for two- and three-dimensional documentation and analysis of many autopsy findings.

Evolution of surfactant protein-D levels in children with ventilator-associated pneumonia.

Rationale: The pathobiology of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in children is poorly understood; investigation has been limited by lack of universally applied diagnostic criteria and reliable biomarkers for this condition.

Objectives: We evaluated the clinical pulmonary infection score (CPIS) in diagnosing VAP and prospectively characterized the relationship between surfactant protein-D (SP-D) metabolism and VAP.

Methods: Children admitted to an Egyptian PICU requiring intubation were screened for the absence of primary pulmonary pathology.
