- Tramadol, a widely used opioid analgesic, can cause oxidative stress and significant testicular damage in both adult and adolescent rats, as demonstrated by various structural changes and increased collagen levels.
- Pomegranate seed extract (PgSE) was found to provide protective effects against these tramadol-induced damages, preventing many of the observed abnormalities in testicular structure and function.
- The study suggests that the high levels of polyphenols and flavonoids in PgSE, along with its strong antioxidant activity, contribute to its ability to safeguard against the adverse effects of tramadol, especially in younger rats.
