A 35-year-old man attended our hospital with complaining of epigastric pain and vomiting. He was diagnosed with bowel intussusception based on the target sign revealed in the upper jejunum by abdominal computed tomography. However, the cause of the intussusception was not clear.

Purpose: To investigate the prevalence and characteristics of paravascular inner retinal abnormalities in healthy eyes.
Materials And Methods: In this prospective observational case series, we included 178 healthy eyes (178 patients) with no ocular diseases. Eyes with co-existing ocular diseases, e.
Background: Patients with ovarian cancer with high levels of heparin-binding epidermal growth factor-like growth factor have a poor prognosis. Here we assessed the pharmacokinetics and tumour-inhibiting effects of cross-reacting material 197, produced commercially as BK-UM, and examined the efficacy and safety of its intravenous (i.v.

Many anticancer agents have been developed for lung cancer with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations, but its prognosis remains extremely poor. The development of molecularly-targeted therapies is required for patients with lung cancer with secondary mutation of the EGFR gene.

Purpose: To examine how corneal astigmatism changes with age over 20 years after cataract surgery and to assess whether the changes differ from those in eyes that did not have surgery.
Setting: Hayashi Eye Hospital, Fukuoka, Japan.
Design: Retrospective case study.
Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) has been known to cause pauci-immune crescentic glomerulonephritis. In addition, several reports described membranous glomerulonephritis (MN) concurrent with ANCA-associated glomerulonephritis. Because the two glomerular diseases simultaneously appear in an ANCA-positive patient, the mechanisms whereby ANCA causes the two different glomerular diseases remain ambiguous.

A 52-year-old man was referred to our hospital complaining of right lower abdominal pain. He was diagnosed with appendicitis complicated with a liver abscess and underwent an appendectomy. After antibiotic treatment following surgery, the liver abscess penetrated the right lung, which was considered to be drained from a hepatobronchial fistula.

Here, we conduct a genome-wide association scan on 771 German PEX patients and 1,350 controls, followed by independent testing of associated variants in Italian and Japanese data sets. We focus on a 3.

Interestingly, the majority of "double positive" ANCA is myeloperoxidase (MPO)-ANCA, and some of the MPO-ANCA-positive cases reveal intrarenal arteritis indicating an ANCA-associated renal lesion. In contrast, proteinase 3 (PR3)-ANCA-positive "double positive" disease had rarely been reported, and as far as we know, none of the cases showed intrarenal arteritis.

Patients And Methods: A total of 229 patients who underwent bilateral lateral lymph node dissection during resection with curative intent for cT3-4 middle or lower rectal cancer from 2002 to 2013 were retrospectively reviewed. The index of estimated benefit from lymph node dissection for all, and each (common iliac, internal iliac and obturator), lateral lymph nodes were compared with the index for mesenteric lymph nodes (perirectal, intermediate and main lymph nodes).
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the urinary pharmacokinetics (PK) of orbifloxacin (OBFX) administered at 5 mg kg-1 in six healthy dogs. A further aim was to use an ex vivo model to evaluate the urinary PK and pharmacodynamics (PD) of OBFX to determine its urinary bactericidal titre (UBT), which represents the maximal dilution of urine allowing bactericidal activity.
Methodology: Fourteen urinary tract infection (UTI) pathogenic strains of five bacterial species (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis and Staphylococcuspseudintermedius) were used.
Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) comprise an antibody, a linker, and a drug or payload. The selection of a tumor-specific antibody and development of a linker having an efficient controlled drug release (CDR) are critical steps in developing a fully functional and effective ADC. In our research strategy, molecular imaging technologies have been employed to evaluate the efficiency of antibody delivery and CDR of the linker.

We assessed the safety, pharmacokinetics, recommended dose, and efficacy of BK-UM in patients with recurrent ovarian cancer (OC) or peritoneal cancer (PC), and measured HB-EGF levels in serum and abdominal fluid after BK-UM administration.
Methods: Eleven patients with advanced or recurrent OC or PC were enrolled and treated with BK-UM via the intraperitoneal route.
Purpose: To confirm the prophylactic effect of oral acetazolamide against increased intraocular pressure (IOP) in the period immediately after cataract surgery in eyes with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and to evaluate the appropriate administration time of oral acetazolamide to prevent IOP elevation.
Design: Randomized clinical study.
Participants: Ninety eyes of 90 patients with well-controlled POAG scheduled for phacoemulsification.
Pharmaceutical companies continuously face challenges to deliver new drugs with true medical value. R&D productivity of drug development projects depends on 1) the value of the drug concept and 2) data and in-depth knowledge that are used rationally to evaluate the drug concept's validity. A model-based data-intensive drug development approach is a key competitive factor used by innovative pharmaceutical companies to reduce information bias and rationally demonstrate the value of drug concepts.

Methods: In 27 enrolled eyes (27 patients) with resolved branch retinal vein occlusion, superficial and deep capillaries in the macular area (3- × 3-mm, centered on the fovea) were examined with optical coherence tomography angiography. Retinal sensitivity was examined with fundus-monitored microperimetry.
By autoclaving, we obtained a polyphenol and dietary fiber from pea (Pisum sativum L.) pods in parallel without acid or alkali treatment or organic solvent extraction. Rats fed a high-sucrose (HS) diet containing 3% autoclaved extract (AE) for 4 wk exhibited significantly lower serum triglyceride and total cholesterol levels than rats fed a HS diet.

Methods: Forty-eight consecutive eyes (primary open-angle glaucoma: 28; exfoliation glaucoma: 20) scheduled to undergo S-LOT were studied. A 320-degree opening in the Schlemm canal was planned when total circumferential cannulation had been achieved, and the remaining 40-degree region under the scleral flap was not incised.
The crystal structures of the title compounds, CHNO and CHNO, were determined as part of an experiment in an undergraduate teaching laboratory that demonstrates the relationship between mol-ecular structure and function. 1',3',3'-Tri-methyl-spiro-[chromene-2,2'-indoline] is both a photoswitch and thermochromic mol-ecule. Students synthesized it and a bis-indoline adduct and compared the crystallographically determined structures to computed gas-phase models.

In clinical trials, investigating the ratio of patients with each disease who are treated in a hospital is important for determining the number of patients who are allocated to hospitals. The Japanese health insurance claims data includes standardized disease and medicine data. However, the disease data has some problems in terms of reliability, because the healed diseases are sometimes not deleted or because a disease that a patient does not actually have is registered to claim the cost of the examination.

There is a great need to reuse data stored in electronic medical records (EMR) databases for clinical research. We previously reported the development of a system in which progress notes and case report forms (CRFs) were simultaneously recorded using a template in the EMR in order to exclude redundant data entry. To make the data collection process more efficient, we are developing a system in which the data originally stored in the EMR database can be populated within a frame in a template.
