Men who have sex with men (MSM) experience a high degree of discrimination and marginalization in Senegal. Homophobia is pervasive in Senegalese society at the cultural, religious, and political levels. Its effects are reflected in the disproportionately high levels of depression, anxiety, and substance abuse among men who have sex with men when compared to the general population.

Identification of type III effectors modulating the symbiotic properties of Bradyrhizobium vignae strain ORS3257 with various Vigna species.

The Bradyrhizobium vignae strain ORS3257 is an elite strain recommended for cowpea inoculation in Senegal. This strain was recently shown to establish symbioses on some Aeschynomene species using a cocktail of Type III effectors (T3Es) secreted by the T3SS machinery. In this study, using a collection of mutants in different T3Es genes, we sought to identify the effectors that modulate the symbiotic properties of ORS3257 in three Vigna species (V.

Context: Community engagement is one of the most effective approaches to the fight against Ebola. It has been shown to be effective in other contexts and was implemented in Guinea for two years to reduce the spread of the Ebola Outbreak.

Methods: This article is based on a qualitative approach combining several data collection methods over a nine-month period in the field : series of formal and informal interviews, participating observations, focus groups, comment meetings, analysis of reports and follow-up of news on the Ebola Outbreak.

Assessment of dental caries prevention program applied to a cohort of elementary school children of Kebemer, a city in Senegal.

Objective: Dental caries is frequently observed in children, particularly among those residing in developing countries. The most adapted strategies against this pathology remains prevention based on information, education, and communication (IEC), as well as on early diagnosis and treatment. We carried out a study that aimed to analyze the development of dental caries in a cohort of school children followed during their primary education.

Phase behavior of Ar and Kr films on carbon nanotubes.

Recent experiments (Wang et al., 2010) have found evidence of phase transitions of gases adsorbed on a single carbon nanotube. In order to understand the observations, we have carried out classical grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations of this system, for the cases of Ar and Kr on zigzag and armchair nanotubes with radius R > 0.

Anomalous effective dimensionality of quantum gas adsorption near nanopores.

Three problems involving quasi-one-dimensional (1D) ideal gases are discussed. The simplest problem involves quantum particles localized within the 'groove', a quasi-1D region created by two adjacent, identical and parallel nanotubes. At low temperature (T), the transverse motion of the adsorbed gas, in the plane perpendicular to the axes of the tubes, is frozen out.
