Several studies reported the presence of different pathogenic agents in head lice specimens collected worldwide. This questionnaire-based study included 69 patients from the Republic of Guinea with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and was conducted over 12 months. The factors that affected their quality of life (QoL) were determined. The included ESRD patients had an estimated creatinine clearance (CCr) of <15 mL/minute using MDRD formula.

Background: In Guinea Elapids are responsible for 20% of envenomations. The associated case fatality rate (CFR) ranged 15-27%, irrespective of treatment.

A transversal prospective study of 69 patients with terminal stage renal disease covering a 12 month period - 1 January to 31 December 2010 - was conducted; the objective was to determine factors affecting their quality of life. This is a questionnaire study covering a 12 month period. The study group were patients with ESRD whose clearance of creatinin were less than 15ml/min.

While the high seroprevalence for the rickettsiae that cause spotted fevers and the multiple pathogenic rickettsiae is known, the data on the distribution of rickettsial diseases in Africa are often incomplete. We collected ticks from domestic or wild animals (generally a source of bushmeat) that were in contact with humans in 2 neighboring countries of tropical West Africa, Guinea and Liberia. In total, 382 ticks representing 6 species were collected in Liberia and 655 ticks representing 7 species were collected in Guinea.
