Article Synopsis
  • * The condition has a significant likelihood of returning or spreading, necessitating long-term monitoring after treatment.
  • * A case study discusses a 28-year-old male who experienced swelling near his ear for 9 months, leading to a diagnosis of ACC after a parotidectomy was performed, with pathological examinations confirming the tumor type.

Background: Recent evidence suggests that oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients who exhibit the immunohistochemical expression of immune checkpoint protein programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) are more likely to have a poor clinical outcome and may serve as an independent prognostic marker.

Aims And Objectives: This study aimed to assess the immunohistochemical expression of immune checkpoint protein PD-L1 in OSCC and its clinicopathological correlation.

Materials And Methods: OSCC cases were included in the study.

Article Synopsis
  • - Salivary gland tumors have diverse clinical presentations and histological subtypes, making the use of immunocytochemical markers essential for diagnosis and risk assessment of these malignancies.
  • - This study aimed to evaluate the application of The 'Milan System' for reporting salivary gland cytology, alongside using immunocytochemical markers to enhance the diagnostic accuracy and risk stratification of salivary gland lesions.
  • - Out of 60 patients studied, the results indicated varying rates of malignancy based on the Milan categories, with significant findings reinforcing that combining cell blocks with immunocytochemistry improves the overall risk stratification for these tumors.

Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a chronic debilitating and a well-recognized potentially malignant condition of the oral cavity, sometimes involving oropharynx associated with trismus and burning sensation. Apart from medical management and counselling, local injection of hyaluronidase mixed with triamcinolone acetonide has been used at our centre for the last 20 years with satisfactory clinical results and without any significant side effects. The problem with the treatment was that the doses and duration of treatment has not been standardized.

Background Palpable nodules in the thyroid are present in 4-7% of the general population. Fine-needle aspiration cytology is a safe and cost-effective method of choice for evaluating thyroid nodules. Aspirated samples can be manually spread directly onto the slide and stained in the conventional smear method.

Background & Objectives: Studies have shown that apart from hereditary breast carcinomas, breast cancer susceptibility gene 1 (BRCA1) mutations conferring to its loss are seen in sporadic breast carcinomas (SBC) as well. The aim of the present study was to assess BRCA1 methylation in females presenting at King George's Medical University, Lucknow, with SBC by both immunohistochemistry (IHC) and methylation PCR with respect to hormonal profile and various morphological prognostic parameters. The primary objective was to look for the association between BRCA1 protein expression and DNA promoter methylation.

Background And Objectives:  The aim of this study was to determine the immunohistochemical expression of p16 (p16) and cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDK4) and CDK4 markers in various lineages of soft tissue tumors and to evaluate their role in differentiating atypical lipomatous tumors/well-differentiated liposarcomas from benign lipomas.

Material And Methods: A total of 70 cases of both excisional and incisional biopsies of soft tissue tumors were included in this study. Histopathological examination was done by using formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue samples.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study investigates the role of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers like beta-catenin, E-cadherin, and MMP9 in gall bladder cancer (GBC), focusing on their correlation with tumor invasion depth and patient outcomes.
  • - A case-control study was conducted with 70 gall bladder samples (50 GBC and 20 chronic cholecystitis), analyzing the expression of these markers through immunohistochemistry.
  • - Results showed a significant decrease in E-cadherin and beta-catenin, and an increase in MMP9 in GBC, suggesting these markers could indicate poor clinical outcomes and advanced disease linked to EMT type III.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the predictive value of Immunohistochemical p53 cut-off scores as an adjunct to routine histopathology for better diagnosis of cervical lesions.

Materials And Methods: Prospective study carried out for 1 year. After ethical approval and informed consent, a total of 100 cervical tissue samples were analyzed; chronic cervicitis (CC)-15, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN)-40, and squamous cell carcinoma cervix (SCC)-45 (FIGO 2018 clinical staging).

Background: Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a key aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) isozyme, related to the cancer stem cells which are responsible for initiating tumor growth, progression, and recurrence. High expression of ALDH1A1 has been reported in several tumor types in humans and its expression is associated with poor prognosis. The aim of this study was to assess the expression of the ALDH1A1 in oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and its correlation with various clinicopathological parameters.

Although tuberculosis is a common health problem in developing countries such as India, tuberculous parotitis (tubercular involvement of parotid gland) is rarely encountered. Because of very low incidence and nonspecific symptoms, it is often misdiagnosed as parotid neoplasm. Ultrasonographic and computed tomographic findings are also noncontributory for this entity.
