[Infant botulism: an underestimated problem. A review].

The article is devoted to a form of botulism that has been little studied in our country and is registered exclusively in infants. The fundamental difference between this form and the most common foodborne botulism is that infants become infected by ingestion of spores, followed by their germination, colonization of the intestines and production of botulinum toxin , which leads to the development of life-threatening flaccid paralysis. Taking into account the peculiarities of pathogenesis, the clinical manifestations of infant botulism have some features, which are discussed by the authors.

[Description of the case of adverse pasteurellosis in a cirrhosis patient. Case report].

The article describes a clinical case of an unfavorable course of pasteurellosis in a patient with liver cirrhosis. Possible variants of the clinical course, clinical and epidemiological data, on the basis of which pasteurellosis can be suspected, modern recommendations for antibiotic therapy are considered.

[The problem of diagnosis and differential diagnosis of botulism in pregnant women. Case report].

The article describes a clinical observation of a severe course of a sporadic case of foodborne botulism in a woman at 32 weeks gestation with a successful resolution of pregnancy by independent childbirth. No adverse effects of botulism on pregnancy, delivery, and fetal development were noted. Anti-botulinum serum was administered to the patient no earlier than 96 hours from the onset of the disease.

CRISPR-Cas Systems in Gut Microbiome of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

The human gut microbiome is associated with various diseases, including autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Variations of the taxonomical composition in the gut microbiome of children with ASD have been observed repeatedly. However, features and parameters of the microbiome CRISPR-Cas systems in ASD have not been investigated yet.

[Treatment of chronic viral hepatitis C with direct acting antiviral agent: review].

HCV infection treatment regimens are viewed from positions of HCV life cycle and replication, effects of NS3/4A protease inhibitors and NS5A/NS5B inhibitors on HCV strain replication. Evolution of HCV treatment regimens from its discovery to modern DAA agents had led to substantial progress although drug resistance poses a new issue to be addressed.

[Human babesiosis: clinical cases in the european part of the Russian Federation].

The article describes four clinical observations of patients with babesiosis detected in the European part of the Russian Federation, two of whom were under the direct supervision of the authors. The analysis of epidemiological data, clinical picture, results of laboratory studies in the dynamics of the disease. Differential diagnosis and treatment are discussed.

Conductivity and Density of States of New Polyphenylquinoline.

Electrical, photoelectrical, and optical properties of thin films of a new heat-resistant polyphenylquinoline synthesized using facile methods were investigated. An analysis of the obtained temperature dependences of the dark conductivity and photoconductivity indicates the hopping mechanism of conductivity over localized states arranging at the energy distance of 0.8 eV from the Fermi level located inside the band gap of the investigated material.

The article discusses the problem of the role of pets as a source of zoonotic infections, representing a hidden threat to modern society. Since the content is now very popular at home, both traditional and exotic animals, it is necessary to develop an interdisciplinary program to control the spread of zoonotic infections and the risks of their infection with people. Since the problem lies in the intersection of several disciplines, joint efforts of doctors, veterinarians, health organizers and laboratory specialists are necessary.

The problem of diagnosis of generalized and focal forms of salmonellosis.

The article describes the clinical observation with an unfavorable outcome of the generalized form of salmonella infection caused by Salmonella typhimurium group B in a woman of 60 years without immunodeficiency, complicated by the development of multiple abscesses of the lower parts of abdominal cavity, probably of appendicular origin. In a short literary review, the pathogenetic mechanisms that contribute to the formation of generalized and extraintestinal forms of salmonella infection are discussed.

[Difficulties in the diagnosis of diarrhea-associated hemolytic uremic syndrome in adults].

Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is a rare, but menacing condition registered mainly in children. The paper gives a detailed description and analysis of a clinical case of HUS with a favorable outcome in an adult woman who developed the syndrome in the presence of bloody diarrhea. It considers an update on the etiology, pathogenesis, and clinical features of HUS associated with diarrheal syndrome and discusses differential diagnostic features, diagnostic problems, and characteristics of management tactics for patients.

[Description of a case of severe Q fever].

The paper considers a rare clinical case of severe Q fever in a young man with no compromised premorbid background. It describes and analyzes clinical manifestations and laboratory findings with consideration for the current data available in the literature. The issues of the differential diagnosis, laboratory diagnosis, and treatment of Q fever are discussed.

[Results of using biocoating by means of the amniotic sac. Communication 1. Keratoplasty with graft biocoating].

To protect a corneal graft at keratoplasty from tear moisture hyperhydration of the de-epithelized surface and from the negative exposure to contact with the eyelid mucosa in order to enhance surgical efficiency, the authors have developed a few biocoating technologies that involve amnionic sac placement on the graft, with its fixation on the eye of a recipient, by applying a full-thickness and layered corneal disc autologous flap or a ring-shaped allogenic corneoscleral one. Fifty-two patients (55 eyes) with primary (n=5) and secondary (n=33) corneal dystrophy and leukomas (n=14) were operated on. Penetrating keratoplasty and layer-by-layer grafting were performed in 38 (40 eyes) and 14 (15 eyes) patients, respectively.

[Pathogenetic aspects of intoxication syndrome in the clinical picture of infectious diseases].

Pathogenetic mechanisms of intoxication syndrome in patients with infectious diseases are considered in the context of current general pathologic concepts. All major components of pathogenesis are discussed in terms of the authors' original observations and literature data. Bacterial endo- and exotoxines are believed to be the main inductors of intoxication.

[A focal infiltration in the upper lobe of the right lung as a manifestation of the initial stage of secondary syphilis].

Among sexually transmitted diseases, the incidence of primary and secondary syphilis has substantially increased in Russian Federation within the recent years. Modern clinicians, acquainted only with conventional dermatovenerologic symptoms of the disease, are less aware of rare manifestations of syphilis as a generalized infection. A rare case of syphilis with infiltrative pulmonary lesion is discussed in the article; the attention of practitioners is drawn to "unusual" manifestations of syphilis.

[Morphometric analysis of the structure of tear and aqueous humor in senile cataract].

The parameters of the wedge dehydrated samples of aqueous humor and tear taken from patients with senile cataract were compared by a morphometric assay. Computer-aided processing of the images of the test biological fluids was made on a Morphotest-1 hardware-software complex. The study has provided evidence for the uniformity of distribution of major structural components in the dehydrated samples of tear and aqueous humor in each specific examinee.
