Comparing quality and barriers to sleep in non-mechanically ventilated intensive care patients in intensive care unit and in hospital ward.

Purpose: It is uncertain if quality and barriers of sleep differs based on the location of a patient in the hospital. Our aim was to compare the patient reported sleep quality (QoS) in non-mechanically ventilated patients in ICU and wards, and identify the barriers of sleep in ICU and in wards.

Methods: The survey assessed the QoS at three stages including the day immediately prior to hospital admission, after their last night spent in the ICU prior to discharge, and the first night in wards.

This manuscript, through the summarization of the latest evidence, aims to establish a consensus among clinicians regarding optimal strategies for diagnosing and managing BPH, to improve patient care and outcomes in clinical practice. A panel of urologists conducted a comprehensive review of the literature by searching various databases and search engines (PubMed, Google Scholar, and Cochrane databases).

Background: In-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) is a serious medical emergency. When IHCA occurs in patients with frailty, short-term survival is poor. However, the impact of frailty on long-term survival is unknown.

To our knowledge, the use and management of pressure support ventilation (PSV) in patients receiving prolonged (≥ 7 days) invasive mechanical ventilation has not previously been described. To collect and analyse data on the use and management of PSV in critically ill patients receiving prolonged ventilation. We performed a multicentre retrospective observational study in Australia, with a focus on PSV in patients ventilated for ≥ 7 days.

Respiratory system mechanics, gas exchange, and outcomes in mechanically ventilated patients with COVID-19-related acute respiratory distress syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

The association of respiratory mechanics, particularly respiratory system static compliance (C), with severity of hypoxaemia in patients with COVID-19-related acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has been widely debated, with some studies reporting distinct ARDS phenotypes based on C. Ascertaining whether such phenotypes exist is important, because they might indicate the need for ventilation strategies that differ from those used in patients with ARDS due to other causes. In a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies published between Dec 1, 2019, and March 14, 2022, we evaluated respiratory system mechanics, ventilator parameters, gas exchange parameters, and clinical outcomes in patients with COVID-19-related ARDS.

Pyrrole-2,5-dione analogs as a promising antioxidant agents: microwave-assisted synthesis, bio-evaluation, SAR analysis and DFT studies/interpretation.

A new series of pyrrole analogs were developed via the microwave irradiation synthesis. Consequently, got a high yield of the products. As pyrroles are familiar for showing various biological properties, all obtained compounds were screened for their antioxidant properties, most of the compounds showing significant activity.

Organocatalytic Selective [3 + 2] Cycloadditions: Synthesis of Functionalized 5-Arylthiomethyl-1,2,3-triazoles and 4-Arylthio-1,2,3-triazoles.

An organocatalytic azide-ketone [3 + 2] cycloaddition (OrgAKC) of a variety of 1-aryl-3-(arylthio)propan-2-ones and 1-alkyl-3-(arylthio)propan-2-ones with different aryl/vinyl/alkyl azides is reported under ambient conditions to furnish the medicinally important 1,4-disubstituted-5-arylthiomethyl-1,2,3-triazoles and 1,5-disubstituted-4-arylthio-1,2,3-triazoles, respectively, in a regioselective manner with high yields/rates. With controlled and online NMR experiments, we proved that the reaction path is following the organocatalytic enolization through selective deprotonation followed by a [1,3]-H shift. Surprisingly, the [3 + 2] cycloaddition of aryl/vinyl/alkyl azides with the -generated equilibrated thermodynamic ↔ kinetic enolates furnished the highly regioselective functionally rich 1,2,3-triazoles by discriminating their reactivities.

Three-dimensional assessment of transverse displacement with Facemask and Maxgym in unilateral cleft lip and palate model.

Background: Growing patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP) exhibit maxillary deficiency due to early surgical intervention. Maxillary protraction with expansion is the recommended treatment modality for deficient maxilla. Facemask is a conventional protraction appliance, and Maxgym is a new protraction appliance.

"Likely overassistance" during invasive pressure support ventilation in patients in the intensive care unit: a multicentre prospective observational study.

Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of "likely overassistance" (categorised by respiratory rate [RR] ≤ 17 breaths/min or rapid shallow breathing index [RSBI] ≤ 37 breaths/min/L) during invasive pressure support ventilation (PSV), and the additional prevalence of fixed ventilator settings.

Design: Multicentre prospective observational study of invasive PSV practice in six general Victorian intensive care units with blinding of staff members to data collection.

Patients: At each hospital, investigators collected data between 11 am and 2 pm on all invasive PSV-treated patients on 60 sequential days, excluding weekends and public holidays, between 22 February and 30 August 2017.

Nocturia - Symptom or a Disease?

Waking at night to void is known as nocturia and it is a common condition experienced by both men and women with profound impact on patient's health, quality of life, and economic condition. It is often perceived as a symptom of an organic disease, but the pathophysiology of nocturia is now well-understood, and it is considered as a disease itself. It is classified based on four different pathophysiologic mechanisms (24-hour polyuria, nocturnal polyuria, reduced bladder capacity, and sleep disorders).

Umbilical only access laparoscopic pyeloplasty in children: Preliminary report.

Background: Over the past three decades, laparoscopic surgery has become a well-established alternative to open surgery in the management of ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction. Currently, several efforts are being made, aimed at further reducing the morbidity associated with conventional laparoscopy. We report our experience with modified umbilical port laparoscopic pyeloplasty in children.

Synthesis and antimicrobial activity of amino linked heterocycles.

Amino-linked benzoxazolyl/benzothiazolyl/benzimidazolyl quinazolines were prepared and their antimicrobial activity studied. Synthesis and antimicrobial activity of (1,4-phenylene)bis(arylsulfonylpyrazoles and isoxazoles).

A new class of (1,4-phenylene)bis(arylsufonylpyrazoles and isoxazoles) were synthesized by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of nitrile imines and nitrile oxides to the 1,4-bis((E)-2-(arylsulfonyl)vinyl)benzenes in the presence of chloramine-T. Compound 7f exhibited pronounced antimicrobial activity.

Synthesis and antioxidant activity of styrylsulfonylmethyl 1,3,4-oxadiazoles, pyrazolyl/isoxazolyl-1,3,4-oxadiazoles.

A new class of mono and bis heterocycles-styrylsulfonylmethyl 1,3,4-oxadiazoles, pyrazolyl/isoxazolyl-1,3,4-oxadiazoles were prepared and studied their antioxidant activity. The compound methyl substituted 2-(p-methylphenylamino-sulfonylmethyl)-5-[Z-(p-methylstyrylsulfonylmethyl)]-1,3,4-oxadiazole displayed slightly higher antioxidant activity than the standard ascorbic acid.

Synthesis and antioxidant activity of a new class of mono- and bis-heterocycles.

A new class of mono- and bis-heterocycles, 2-arylsulfonylaminosulfonylmethyl-5-styrylsulfonylmethyloxadiazoles, pyrazolyl oxadiazoles, and isoxazolyl oxadiazoles, were synthesized and tested for their antioxidant activity. The styrylsulfonylmethyloxadiazole 5b showed good antioxidant activity when compared with the standard ascorbic acid.

Baylis-Hillman acetates in organic synthesis: convenient one-pot synthesis of α-carboline framework--a concise synthesis of neocryptolepine.

A convenient, facile, and one-pot methodology for the synthesis of α-carbolines from Baylis-Hillman (BH) acetates, involving three steps (reactions), (1) mono alkylation of 2-nitroarylacetonitriles with BH-acetates, (2) reduction of nitro group into amino group using Fe/AcOH and (3) formation of two (five and six membered) rings, is presented. This methodology is successfully applied to the synthesis of bioactive alkaloid neocryptolepine.

Effect of different musical tempo on post-exercise recovery in young adults.

Guided bone regeneration by poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) grafted hyaluronic acid bi-layer films for periodontal barrier applications.

A novel protocol for the synthesis of biocompatible and degradation controlled poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) grafted hyaluronic acid (HA-PLGA) was successfully developed for periodontal barrier applications. HA was chemically modified with adipic acid dihydrazide (ADH) in the mixed solvent of water and ethanol, which resulted in a high degree of HA modification up to 85 mol.%.
