Rodents are the reservoirs of the plague bacterium Yersinia pestis, which is transmitted through the bites of infected fleas. In this paper, we studied the distribution and abundance of fleas and rodents in the erstwhile endemic states and seaports of India from 2009 to 2019. The analysis showed that the Rattus rattus (Rr) was the major rodent species found in both Western (66.

In the liver, glucokinase promotes the synthesis of glycogen, and in the pancreas, it helps in glucose-sensitive insulin release. It serves as a "glucose sensor" and thereby plays an important role in the regulation of glucose homeostasis.

We implemented this protocol on transcriptome to identify proteins involved in secondary metabolite and vitamin biosynthesis and ion transport. This knowledge-driven protocol identifies proteins using an integrated approach involving sensitive sequence search and evolutionary relationships.

Meta-analysis showed that Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) administration resulted in a significant increase in the number of oocytes retrieved in women with POR. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of DHEA supplementation on IVF outcomes among poor responders undergoing IVF.

Viral kinases have been implicated in various diseases and are also known to acquire host kinases for mimicking cellular functions and exhibit virulence. Although substantial analyses have been reported in the literature on diversity of viral kinases, there is a gap in the understanding of sequence and structural similarity among kinases from different classes of viruses.

The antimutagenic effect of botryosphaeran, an exocellular (1 → 3)(1 → 6)-β-d-glucan, from the ascomyceteous and plant-borne endophytic fungus, Botryosphaeria rhodina MAMB-05, was evaluated in young (6-8 weeks) and elderly (18 months) Swiss albino mice of both genders. The hypolipidemic, hypoglycemic and antiatherogenic potential was also evaluated in 18-month old male LDL receptor knockout (LDLr) mice. Administration of botryosphaeran by gavage (doses: 7.

Botryosphaeran (BOT) is an exocellular β-d-glucan (carbohydrate biopolymer) of the (1→3;1→6)-linked type produced by Botryosphaeria rhodina MAMB-05. The cytotoxic, mutagenic, genotoxic, and protective effects of this substance were evaluated in Chinese hamster lung fibroblasts (V79) and rat hepatocarcinoma cells (HTC) by the micronucleus test (MN) and the comet assay. BOT was not genotoxic in either cell line; it decreased the clastogenic effects of doxorubicin, HO, and benzo[a]pyrene.

In this study the mutagenic, genotoxic, antigenotoxic and antioxidant properties of the fungal exopolysaccharide botryosphaeran, a (1→3)(1→6)-β-D-glucan, from Botryosphaeria rhodina MAMB-05, was evaluated. The mutagenicity was assessed at five concentrations in Salmonella typhimurium by the Ames test.

There is growing interest in the anticancer and immunomodulatory potential of fungal β-d-glucans. In the present study, the modulation of gene expression via RT-qPCR and cell cycle kinetics via flow cytometry were assessed in human normal and tumor (Jurkat) lymphocytes after treatment with botryosphaeran (a fungal (1→3)(1→6)-β-d-glucan) from Botryosphaeria rhodina MAMB-05. Cell cultures were treated with botryosphaeran either alone, or in combination with doxorubicin (DXR), in a post-treatment protocol.

Investigations were carried out to evaluate the effect of two, structurally related, triterpenes-betulin and lupeol-on the membrane peroxidation and antioxidant systems in red blood cells, during pyridoxine-deficient condition in rats. Increased lipid peroxidation levels in the absence and presence of ferrous sulphate, an inducer of lipid peroxidation, indicated peroxidative damage to the red-cell membrane. Na(+), K(+)-ATPase activity was decreased while that of other ion-specific ATPases were increased in the red cells of pyridoxine-deficient rats.

Lupeol (Lupa-21,20(29) dien, 3beta-ol) has been found to be efficient in reducing the risk of stone formation in animals by way of preventing crystal-induced tissue damage and dilution of urinary stone-forming constituents. In the present study, two structurally related triterpenes, lupeol and betulin (Lupa-20(29)ene-3,28 diol) were assessed for their antilithiatic effect.
