Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is a crucial technique in the preparation of high-quality thin films and coatings, and is widely used in various industries including semiconductor, optics, and nuclear fuel, due to its operation simplicity and high growth rate. The complexity of the CVD process arises from numerous parameters, such as precursor chemistry, temperature, pressure, gas flow dynamics, and substrate characteristics. These multiscale parameters make the optimization of the CVD process a challenging task.

Three-dimensional (3D) graphene with novel nano-architectures exhibits many excellent properties and is promising for energy storage and conversion applications. Herein, a new strategy based on the fluidized bed chemical vapor deposition (FB-CVD) process was proposed to prepare 3D graphene networks (3DGNs) with various nano-architectures. Specially designed SiC-C@graphene core/shell nanoparticles were prepared taking the advantages of the FB-CVD system, and 3DGNs with hierarchical nanostructures were obtained after removing the SiC core.

A novel method was proposed to monitor the working state (temperature and stress) of sealing glass in electrical penetration assemblies, which was used for electrical connection in containment structures or pressure vessels of nuclear power plants, based on femto-laser inscribed fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors. Aging tests under thermal (~200°C) and radiation (~3.5MGy) conditions were carried out to demonstrate the feasibility of FBG in harsh environment.

An important factor for maintaining hermeticity of a metal-to-glass sealed electrical penetration assembly (EPA) is the residual stress in the sealing glass, which is generated during the EPA sealing process. A novel method to investigate and optimize the sealing process of EPAs, based on a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor, is proposed in this research. An FBG was well bonded with sealing glass to measure the parameters of the glass during the sealing process.
