Anorectal manometry may be performed by a nurse or physician, yet little has been written about what training is needed. Additionally, many gastroenterology nurses receive little exposure to motility studies such as anorectal manometry, limiting their ability to learn these procedures. We therefore sought to evaluate whether a short didactic course on anorectal manometry would increase nurses' knowledge about the procedure and stimulate their interest in becoming trained to perform it.

We report the electronic, magnetic, structural, vibrational, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy of the inverse full-Heusler Fe2IrSi alloy. We employed state-of-the-art first-principles computational techniques. Our ab initio calculations revealed a ferromagnetic half-metallicity with a magnetic moment of ∼5.

We report the electronic and magnetic properties along with the Curie temperature ( ) of the inverse full Heusler alloy (HA) FeCoAl obtained by using the first-principles computational method. Our calculations suggests that FeCoAl is a magnetic metal when treated within PBE-GGA under the applied compressive pressures. However, the implementation of electron-electron (U) (, GGA+U) with varying compressive pressure () drastically changes the profile of the electronic structure.

The investigation is based on an analysis of results of treatment of 102 patients after an emergency resection of the stomach for complicated gastroduodenal ulcers. The probe was inserted into the jejunum intraoperatively. The period of enteral probe nutrition (EPN) was 5-7 days.

The experience in diagnosis and treatment of 469 patients with gastroduodenal ulcer bleedings is presented. Sensitivity of endoscopy in detection of bleeding source was 98.8%, in detection of ulcer size -- 93.

The article gives a review of literature on the determination of surgical tactics in patients with duodenal ulcer complicated by bleeding. The authors are supporters of the actively-temporizing tactics. They claim that the period of the delay in the decision should not exceed 24 hours and depends on the intensity of the bleeding, the degree of blood loss, the location and nature of the ulcer, the patient's age, and the concomitant diseases.

Clinico-roentgenological data of 11 patients with Sivert-Kartagener's syndrome are analysed. Five patients were operated on during childhood for chronic relapsing pulmonary pathology. The used roentgenological methods included x-ray of the thorax, bilateral bronchography, x-ray of the paranasal sinuses.

The curative endoscopy with diathermocoagulation was performed in 100 patients with acute gastro-intestinal bleedings. Peptic ulcers were the cause of the bleedings in most patients (64). The complete arrest of hemorrhage was achieved in 75 patients.

The frequency and certain specific features of compound forms of the gastric ulcerous disease were studied in 762 operated patients. The most frequent causes of operations for the gastric ulcerous disease were stenosis (28, 3%) chronic ulcers (25%), perforation (21.7%), hemorrhages (14.

Four stages of compression of the trachea were identified on the basis of the treatment of 18 patients. The regularity of the appearance of secondary and immediate signs was established. A phasic pattern of the development of stenosis was found to be characteristic of the acquired pathology, while congenital stenosis was characterized by a gradual growth of secondary changes in the broncho-pulmonary system.

Under study were 113 patients with hemorrhagic ulcer of the stomach. It was established that gastric ulcers were the causes of hemorrhage from the upper parts of the gastrointestinal tract in 9,3% of cases. Hemorrhagic ulcers of the stomach were the cause of hemorrhages of ulcerous etiology in 22% of cases.

Two alkaline RNases and three forms of the enzyme are detected in the cell cytoplasm of the pigling kidney culture transplanted line (IB-RS-2) by gel filtration through Sephadex G-100, G-150 and by chromatography on molselect SE-50. The former two RNases are in complex with the enzyme inhibitor and the latter three forms manifest their action in the pH acid region.

The enzymatic preparations of the RNA-ases from the cells of a continuous line of the sucking pig kidney culture, the blood serum of chicks, and the blood serum of rabbits were isolated and purified. The antiviral action of these enzymes on the homologous culture, chick embryos in infection with the RNA-genom virus of the Newcastle's disease and on rabbits infected with the DNA-genom virus of the Aujeszky's disease was demonstrated. A supposed mechanism of the protective action of "own" RNA-ases is discussed in this work.
