Introduction: The role of defective fimbrio-ovarian relation in cases of unexplained infertility has not been extensively studied. The aim of the study was to assess the role of fimbrio-ovarian relation as an investigative modality in women with unexplained infertility. We also aimed to evaluate the efficacy of superovulation and freeing the fimbria-ovarica in increasing the conception rate of women with unexplained infertility.

Background: Extraaxial cavernous hemangiomas (cavernomas) are very rare lesions, and less than 20 descriptions of these lesions outside the middle fossa have been reported. In this report, we describe a dural cavernous angioma involving the posterior sagittal sinus and discuss the clinical, radiological, operative, and histological features of this very uncommon lesion.

Case Description: A 31-year-old right-handed male presented with headache and decreasing visual acuity.

Congenital arterio-venous malformations of the head and neck are uncommon lesions encountered in clinical practice. They can have a range of clinical effects from mild disfigurement to cardiac failure. Treatment of these lesions poses a challenge to the surgeon due to their extreme vascularity and high incidence of recurrence.

Article Synopsis
  • Twin reversed arterial perfusion (TRAP sequence) is a serious condition affecting identical twins, where one twin (the acardiac fetus) has severe anomalies and the other twin faces significant health risks.
  • The acardiac twin relies on the healthy twin for circulation, putting the healthy twin at risk for heart failure and prematurity.
  • The text presents four case studies and emphasizes the importance of ultrasound in diagnosing and managing this condition.

Eisenmenger's syndrome is a complex combination of cardiovascular abnormalities and is defined as pulmonary hypertension at systemic pressure level with reversed or bi-directional shunt through an intracardiac or aortopulmonary communication. Patients with Eisenmenger's syndrome are at high risk for peripartum morbidity and mortality. Multigravid patients with this disease are therefore uncommon.

Primary vaginal stones are extremely rare and are often mistaken for bladder calculi on plain radiography. However, intravenous pyelography and sonography can help differentiate between the two. We report a case of a large vaginal stone in a 21-year-old woman referred for apareunia and difficult micturation.

We present an interesting case of port site metastasis is a menopausal women subsequent to diagnostic laparoscopy undertaken for chronic pelvic pain, which later proved early ovarian malignancy as the source of primary. While cases of port site metastasis have mostly occurred after extensive disease the possbility of such complication should be in mind at laparoscopy of early cancer.

Losartan is a specific angiotensin II receptor antagonist. Although the teratogenic effects of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors are well documented there are limited reports of losartan induced fetal toxicity. The authors report a case of incomplete ossification of skull bones, transient oliguria and feed intolerance in a newborn following in-utero exposure to losartan.

RP-1 has been reported to provide protection against lethal gamma-irradiation in mice. The present study was undertaken to understand its mechanism of action, especially with respect to modulation of radiation-induced changes in immune cell function, plasma antioxidant potential, cell cycle perturbations, apoptosis in mouse bone marrow cells, and micronuclei frequency in mice reticulocytes. 2 Gy reduced mitogenic response of splenic lymphocytes significantly at 48 h.

We report three rare cases of massive maternal ascites complicating severe pre-eclamptic toxemia seen in the last 18 months. This complication developed in association with the rise of blood pressure to 160/110 mmHg or more, worsening of proteinuria and hyperuricemia. The onset of massive ascites caused respiratory compromise in all these patients, thus necessitating immediate termination of pregnancy.

Denitrifying bacteria metabolize nitrogen oxides through assimilatory and dissimilatory pathways. These redox reactions may affect lung physiology. We hypothesized that airway colonization with denitrifying bacteria could alter nitrogen balance in the cystic fibrosis (CF) airway.

Fluid condensed from the breath of patients with acute asthma is acidic. Several features of asthma pathophysiology can be initiated by exposure of the airway to acid. In renal tubular epithelium, glutaminase produces ammonia to buffer urinary acid excretion.

Extensive pelvic lymph node metastasis in the absence of risk factors was noticed at surgical staging for endometrial cancer in a 55-year-old postmenopausal women. On exploration there was a dilemma as to the disappearing lymph nodes which subsequently proved to be asymptomatic ureteric calculi. The need to palpate the pelvic side walls at the time of surgery for endometrial cancer even in cases when no nodal enlargement is detected preoperatively is highlighted.

Although motor ventricular accidents complicates 6-7% of all pregnancies, the experience of pelvic fractures in near term gravid patients is limited. We present a unique case of fetal death caused by bilateral broad ligament hematomas following maternal pelvic fracture which improved our understanding of management of such cases.

Unlabelled: Takayasu's arteritis is a rare, chronic progressive panendarteritis involving the aorta and its main branches. Anesthesia for patients with Takayasu's arteritis is complicated by their severe uncontrolled hypertension, end-organ dysfunction resulting from hypertension, stenosis of major blood vessels affecting regional circulation, and difficulties encountered in monitoring arterial blood pressure. Takayasu's arteritis is an uncommon disease and previous descriptions of the anesthetic management of patients with this disease have been limited to isolated case reports in the anesthetic literature, mostly in women undergoing cesarean delivery.
