Purpose: Chemotherapy-induced gastrointestinal toxicity is a common adverse event during chemotherapeutic treatment. No uniformly applicable strategies exist to predict, prevent, or treat gastrointestinal toxicity. Thus, a goal of mucositis research is to identify targets for therapeutic interventions and individualized risk prediction.
