Background: Learning curves have been described for a number of urological procedures including radical prostatectomy and laparoscopic nephrectomy but rarely for urethroplasty. We describe the learning curve for bulbar urethroplasty in a single surgeon series.

Methods: A retrospective case note review was performed of 91 consecutive men median age 32 years (range, 15-66 years) having bulbar urethroplasty performed by a single surgeon.

We report the first observation of a baryonic B_{s}^{0} decay, B_{s}^{0}→pΛ[over ¯]K^{-}, using proton-proton collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0  fb^{-1}. The branching fraction is measured to be B(B_{s}^{0}→pΛ[over ¯]K^{-})+B(B_{s}^{0}→p[over ¯]ΛK^{+})=[5.

Article Synopsis
  • The first observation of the B^{0} meson decaying into a purely baryonic final state (B^{0}→pp[over ¯]) is reported based on data from the LHCb experiment at 7 and 8 TeV energies.
  • The measured branching fraction for this decay is B(B^{0}→pp[over ¯])=(1.25±0.27±0.18)×10^{-8}, indicating it's the rarest decay mode observed for the B^{0} meson so far.
  • Additionally, the decay B_{s}^{0}→pp[over ¯] was examined but no signal was detected; an upper limit on its branching fraction has been

The first observation of the D^{0}→π^{+}π^{-}μ^{+}μ^{-} and D^{0}→K^{+}K^{-}μ^{+}μ^{-} decays is reported using a sample of proton-proton collisions collected by LHCb at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, and corresponding to 2  fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity. The corresponding branching fractions are measured using as normalization the decay D^{0}→K^{-}π^{+}[μ^{+}μ^{-}]_{ρ^{0}/ω}, where the two muons are consistent with coming from the decay of a ρ^{0} or ω meson. The results are B(D^{0}→π^{+}π^{-}μ^{+}μ^{-})=(9.

A search for baryon-number violating Ξ_{b}^{0} oscillations is performed with a sample of pp collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3  fb^{-1}. The baryon number at the moment of production is identified by requiring that the Ξ_{b}^{0} come from the decay of a resonance Ξ_{b}^{*-}→Ξ_{b}^{0}π^{-} or Ξ_{b}^{'-}→Ξ_{b}^{0}π^{-}, and the baryon number at the moment of decay is identified from the final state using the decays Ξ_{b}^{0}→Ξ_{c}^{+}π^{-},Ξ_{c}^{+}→pK^{-}π^{+}. No evidence of baryon-number violation is found, and an upper limit at the 95% confidence level is set on the oscillation rate of ω<0.

Context: Excision of urethral diverticulum in females has been reported to be associated with new onset urodynamic stress urinary incontinence (USUI) in up to 49%.

Aims: We have assessed the incidence of new onset USUI in all patients having urethral diverticulum excision with Martius fat pad interposition under the care of a single surgeon between May 1, 2007, and December 1, 2011. The incidence of new onset USUI has been correlated with the preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) appearance of the urethral diverticulum.

Objective: Bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) in women remains an underdiagnosed condition. Although diagnosed rarely in general urologic practice, its incidence in specialist centers has been reported to be up to 29%. In the present study we evaluated the incidence of female BOO in adult women referred for evaluation of lower urinary tract symptoms or urinary incontinence, assessing its etiology and correlating this with its clinical presentation.

A highly significant structure is observed in the Λ_{c}^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{+} mass spectrum, where the Λ_{c}^{+} baryon is reconstructed in the decay mode pK^{-}π^{+}. The structure is consistent with originating from a weakly decaying particle, identified as the doubly charmed baryon Ξ_{cc}^{++}. The difference between the masses of the Ξ_{cc}^{++} and Λ_{c}^{+} states is measured to be 1334.

Two new algorithms for use in the analysis of [Formula: see text] collision are developed to identify the flavour of [Formula: see text] mesons at production using pions and protons from the hadronization process. The algorithms are optimized and calibrated on data, using [Formula: see text] decays from [Formula: see text] collision data collected by LHCb at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV . The tagging power of the new pion algorithm is 60% greater than the previously available one; the algorithm using protons to identify the flavour of a [Formula: see text] meson is the first of its kind.

Aims: Women with functional voiding dysfunction often experience a "catching" sensation when catheterising and are in general investigated with both urethral pressure profilometry (UPP) and sphincter electromyography (EMG). It is unknown whether the pattern of the UPP trace correlates with this sensation of "catching" or with sphincter EMG findings.

Methods: We reviewed the database of all women with voiding dysfunction who had undergone both sphincter EMG and UPP to assess for any relationship between pattern of UPP trace and "catching" on catheterization and/or sphincter EMG findings.

A 47-year-old man presented to the urology department with visible hematuria. He was found to have a high-grade non-muscle-invasive transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder and was subsequently treated with intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guérin instillations. On routine surveillance computed tomography scan following treatment, he was found to have multiple rounded areas of low density in the right kidney, suspicious for renal malignancy.
