Manganese nodules from ocean bed are potential resources of Cu, Ni, and Co for which land-based deposits are scarce in India. The present work describes a novel approach of using glycerol, a nontoxic biomass-derived reductant, for the reductive acid leaching of manganese nodules. Parameters such as acid concentration, time, temperature, and pulp density were optimized for leaching.

Coronavirus disease 2019 infection produce a prothrombotic state. This is initiated through multiple pathways and is finally aggravated by cross talks with cytokine storm and neutrophil, platelet, complement activation. All these combine towards the second week of illness to produce thrombosis in the lung capillaries surrounding the alveolus producing characteristic pulmonary dysfunction (PaO2/FiO2 > 300, normal or minimally increased lung compliance and very high d-dimer levels) and a high rate of peripheral venous thrombosis.

A complete process flowsheet to recover metal values from SmCo-type magnet scrap was investigated. Purpose: The nitric oxide/soluble guanylate cyclase/protein kinase G (NO/sGC/PKG) is known to be involved in the regulation of intraocular pressure (IOP) and may be dysregulated in glaucoma. A noninvasive topical ocular therapy for the treatment of neovascular or "wet" age-related macular degeneration would provide a patient administered alternative to the current standard of care, which requires physician administered intravitreal injections. This manuscript describes a novel strategy for the use of in vivo models of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) as the primary means of developing SAR related to efficacy from topical administration. Ultimately, this effort led to the discovery of acrizanib (LHA510), a small-molecule VEGFR-2 inhibitor with potency and efficacy in rodent CNV models, limited systemic exposure after topical ocular administration, multiple formulation options, and an acceptable rabbit ocular PK profile.

The thermodynamic parameters viz. the standard free energy (∆Gº), Standard enthalpy change (∆Hº) and standard entropy change (∆Sº) were determined using the obtained values of distribution coefficient (kd) of U (VI) in two different types of soils (agricultural and undisturbed) by conducting a batch equilibrium experiment with aqueous media (groundwater and deionised water) at two different temperatures 25°C and 50°C. The obtained distribution coefficients (kd) values of U for undisturbed soil in groundwater showed about 75% higher than in agricultural soil at 25°C while in deionised water, these values were highly insignificant for both soils indicating that groundwater was observed to be more favorable for high surface sorption.

Conflicting data are available about iron metabolism in thalassemia minors. As iron deficiency prevails largely in India, a study of 150 people was conducted to assess the iron level of β thalassemia minor. The study population comprises of 59 males and 91 female who either attended outdoor services and with diagnosed thalassemia minor by hemoglobin high performance liquid chromatography or were the parents (diagnosed thalassemia minor) of β Thalassemia patients visiting daycare services for transfusion.
