This research quantifies the gas release rate from a natural shallow methane seep site in the Laspi Bay (Black Sea), whose origin is thermocatalytic. An adaptive single bubble identification technique was applied to analyze gas volume and release rates from passive acoustic data. Gas from the seafloor was emitted by single bubbles that occurred in clusters.

In this study, short-term (90 min) methane effects on bivalve hemocytes were investigated using flow cytometry. Hemocyte parameters including hemolymph cellular composition, phagocytosis activity, mitochondrial membrane potential and reactive oxygen species (ROS) content were evaluated in the mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis (Lamarck, 1819) exposed to hypoxia (control group), pure methane and industrial methane (industrial hydrocarbon mixture).

Gas seep areas in the bays Laspi, Khersones, and Kazach'ya were chosen for detailed microbiological investigation. The first type of gas jets, observed in the Laspi Bay, was probably associated with discarge of deep thermogenic methane along the faults.

Typically for marine environments, sulfate reduction played the major role in the terminal phase of decomposition of organic matter (OM) in reduced sediments of this area. The rate of this process depended on the amount of available OM.

The paper analyzes the results of thin-needle aspiration biopsy (TNAB) performed in 1155 patients with thyroid nodules. The purpose of the paper was to evaluate the efficiency of TNAB in the differential diagnosis of thyroid nodules and in the detection of carcinoma among them. A prospective open uncontrolled study was conducted.

As a consequence, all the patients were operated on and fine-needle aspiration findings were compared with the histological results. Thyroid cancer was identified in 18.

Material And Methods: 118 patients with BNTL (colloid or colloid hypercellular as shown by thin needle aspiration biopsy, 'cold" or "warm" by scyntigraphy findings) were randomized into two groups: 59 patients were given thyroxin and the other 59 patients PI. The day dose of TX (75-150 mcg) was prescribed according to serum concentration of TTH trying to diminish it to 0.

On the basis of the results of this analysis, a bank of blood and its preparations containing no HBsAg was created and used for blood transfusions in children under 14. The incidence of posttransfusion hepatitis B among the children in 1985 was reduced 2.
