Introduction: Radiological interventions in Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) include anatomical recanalization of the hepatic vein (HV), inferior vena cava (IVC) angioplasty and stenting. In case of technical difficulty and anatomical non-feasibility, an ultrasound-guided direct intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (DIPSS) is created. We aimed at evaluating the outcome of patients managed with DIPSS and comparing it with anatomical recanalization.

Background Overwhelming splanchnic and systemic vasodilatation and low mean arterial pressure (MAP) pose significant challenges in mobilizing ascites in patients with decompensated cirrhosis. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and survival benefits of oral vasoconstrictor and weekly albumin therapy in patients with diuretic intractable and recurrent ascites in cirrhosis. Materials and methods A total of 113 cirrhotic patients with diuretic intractable (n=45) and recurrent ascites (n=68) with MAP ≤ 82 mmHg were included.

The invention of microscopy- and nanoscopy-based imaging technology opened up different research directions in life science. However, these technologies create the need for larger storage space, which has negative impacts on the environment. This scenario creates the need for storing such images in a memory-efficient way.

Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is a prevalent and aggressive malignancy, with the von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) gene playing a critical role in its pathogenesis. However, the association between VHL gene variants and sporadic ccRCC risk remains unexplored in the Indian population. This study aimed to investigate the somatic and germline variants of the VHL gene in sporadic ccRCC patients from West Bengal, India, and their association with disease risk and clinicopathological parameters.

Deepfake is a type of face manipulation technique using deep learning that allows for the replacement of faces in videos in a very realistic way. While this technology has many practical uses, if used maliciously, it can have a significant number of bad impacts on society, such as spreading fake news or cyberbullying. Therefore, the ability to detect deepfake has become a pressing need.

Background Liver cirrhosis (LC) caused by chronic hepatitis C (CHC) infection is a major global public health concern. This study will look at the risk factors for progressive fibrosis and cirrhosis in patients with persistent hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Methods In this cohort study, a total of 300 patients were included.

To evaluate bifunctional ligand reactivity involving NH acidic sites in the secondary coordination sphere, complexes where the proton has been substituted with a methyl group (NMe) are often investigated. An alternative strategy involves substitution of the NH group for an O. This contribution considers and compares the merits of these approaches; the synthesis and characterization of cationic square-planar Rh carbonyl complexes bearing diprotic bispyrazole pyridine ligand L1, and the bis-methylated pyrazole pyridine ligand L1Me are described.

Background Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) often coexists with hypertension, significantly increasing cardiovascular risks. Lifestyle modification counseling has shown promise in managing T2DM and its comorbidities. However, the optimal frequency and structure of counseling for blood pressure control remain uncertain.

Extrahepatic portal vein thrombosis (EHPVO) is an uncommon cause of portal hypertension. In the long term, patients may develop portal cavernoma cholangiopathy (PCC). Up to 30%-40% of patients with EHPVO may not have shuntable veins and are often difficult to manage surgically.

Natural disasters such as earthquakes endanger human lives and infrastructure, particularly in urban areas. With the advancements in science and technology in understanding natural hazards, recent studies have attempted to mitigate them by mapping the risks using geospatial technology. In this paper, we attempt to integrate the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) models, namely the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the Criteria Importance Through Inter-criteria Correlation (CRITIC), besides using the artificial neural network (ANN) to assess the seismic risk in the eastern coast of India.

Article Synopsis
  • Acute viral hepatitis E (HEV) is common in India and usually results in self-limited disease, but chronic forms are becoming more recognized.
  • A case involved a 72-year-old diabetic woman who initially had elevated liver enzymes related to metabolic dysfunction and later developed acute-on-chronic liver failure, testing positive for HEV.
  • Despite management, her liver enzymes remained high, leading to a biopsy that indicated autoimmune hepatitis.

Introduction: Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC), which accounts for 2%-3% of all adult malignant neoplasms with a male-to-female predominance of 1.9 to 1 with typical presentation between 55 and 75 years. The phosphoinositide-3-kinase-protein kinase B/Akt (PI3KPKB/Akt) pathway is a main pathway in control of cell growth.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines Holmes tremor (HT), a type of tremor resulting from thalamic strokes, analyzing its symptoms, causes, and treatment responses in nine patients.
  • - Results showed that tremor onset typically occurred about 50 days post-stroke, with a high prevalence of associated dystonia and varying responses to levodopa treatment among patients.
  • - While levodopa was effective for some patients, increasing the dosage further did not improve outcomes, suggesting that the location of the vascular lesions may affect the severity and character of HT.
