Pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis (PCI) is a rare condition in which pneumocysts develop in the submucosa or subserosa of the colon. We report herein a case of PCI induced by the alpha-glucosidase inhibitor (alphaGI) miglitol. There have been 9 recorded cases of PCI induced by other alphaGIs, but this is the first report of miglitol causing PCI.

Purpose: To retrospectively clarify the utility of metallic stent placement for the treatment of the malignant obstruction of the superior vena cava (SVC) in 71 patients with VC syndrome (SVCS) on the basis of long-term follow-up data.

Materials And Methods: Seventy-one patients underwent stent placement and were followed until death. The applicability of the spiral Z-stent (S-Z-stent) mainly used the initial and follow-up results, stent placement for bilateral BCV obstruction and the value of concurrent anticancer therapy were studied.

Purpose: An inner-covered Spiral Z-stent (IC-SZ) developed by our group was examined for its effectiveness in preventing migration by experimental comparison with commercially available esophageal covered stents.

Materials And Methods: The following six types of stents were used: inner-covered Spiral Z-stents with diameters of 16 mm (small IC-SZ) and 19 mm (large IC-SZ), outer-covered Spiral Z-stent (OC-SZ), covered Wallstent, covered Ultraflex stent, and Cook Z-stent. Experimental models were prepared using clay to simulate stenosis of the esophagogastric junction or anastomosis site due to tumor, and each stent was placed in the clay.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of antithrombotic agents in the prevention of stenosis of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)-covered stents in the venous system.

Methods: Spiral Z stents covered with PTFE (PTFE-covered stents) were placed in the inferior vena cava (IVC) of 34 dogs. Nineteen dogs, used as a control group, were sacrificed at 2, 4, and 12 weeks.

Segmental SMANCS Lipiodol TAE (Seg. SMANCS Lp-TAE) using SMANCS was used to treat HCC in 58 patients and was evaluated in comparison with Seg. Lp-TAE using Epirubicin performed in 50 patients with respect to the course of atrophy of the embolized area, recurrence rate and side effects.

We present a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma accompanied by portal vein and bile duct tumor thrombi. The patient was treated with a spiral Z-stent covered by a polyethylene sheet placed in the bile duct, a Wallstent placed in the portal vein, chemoembolization, and external radiation therapy. The patient is alive with patency of both endoprostheses 18 months later.

Recently, interventional radiology (IVR) has been playing an important role as a treatment for the arterial occlusive diseases. Balloon angioplasty (PTA) is widely used for the stenotic lesions and clinical results are acceptable. However, some other procedures are frequently needed, and metallic stents (MS) are useful quite often.

Rationale And Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of oral administration of cilostazol, an antithrombotic agent, for the prevention of thrombotic occlusion and intimal hyperplasia after stenting.

Methods: Single-bodied Z-stents were placed in the iliac arteries of 23 dogs. Before stenting, an embolizing coil was introduced into the right femoral artery to reduce blood flow in the right iliac artery.
