Motivation: Alignment of reads to a reference genome sequence is one of the key steps in the analysis of human whole-genome sequencing data obtained through Next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies. The quality of the subsequent steps of the analysis, such as the results of clinical interpretation of genetic variants or the results of a genome-wide association study, depends on the correct identification of the position of the read as a result of its alignment. The success of members of the genus Rhodococcus in colonizing arid rocky environments is owed in part to desiccation tolerance and an ability to extract iron through the secretion and uptake of siderophores. Here, we report a comprehensive genomic and taxonomic analysis of Rhodococcus qingshengii strain S10 isolated from eathered serpentine rock at the arid Khalilovsky massif, Russia. Recently, mass-spectrometry methods show its utility in tumor boundary location. The effect of differences between research and clinical protocols such as low- and high-resolution measurements and sample storage have to be understood and taken into account to transfer methods from bench to bedside. In this study, we demonstrate a simple way to compare mass spectra obtained by different experimental protocols, assess its quality, and check for the presence of outliers and batch effect in the dataset.
