Congenital fibrinogen deficiency is an inherited disorder due to genetic mutations with diverse presentations arising from reduced fibrinogen levels (hypofibrinogenemia), absence of fibrinogen in circulation (afibrinogenemia), abnormal functioning (dysfibrinogenemia) or both reduced levels and abnormal functioning (hypodysfibrinogenemia) of fibrinogen. The decreased fibrinogen concentration in congenital fibrinogen deficiency necessitates fibrinogen replacement therapy with fresh frozen plasma, cryoprecipitate, or human fibrinogen concentrate. However, the use of fresh frozen plasma and cryoprecipitate is limited owing to their longer transfusion time, requirement of high doses, volume overload, risk of viral transmission, and other safety concerns.

Magneto-Optical Stark Effect in Fe-Doped CdS Nanocrystals.

Fe doping in II-VI semiconductors, due to the absence of energetically accessible multiple spin state configurations, has not given rise to interesting spintronic applications. In this work, we demonstrate for the first time that the interaction of homogeneously doped Fe ions with the host CdS nanocrystal with no clustering is different for the two spin states and produces two magnetically inequivalent excitonic states upon optical perturbation. We combine ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy and density functional theoretical analysis within the ground and excited states to demonstrate the presence of the magneto-optical Stark effect (MOSE).

Identification and Characteristics of the Three Subgroups of Pain in Chinese Children and Adolescents with Cancer.

Purpose: Pain is a distressing symptom for children and adolescents with cancer and is experienced by individuals differently. This study sought to determine subgroups according to their pain experiences, and how demographic, clinical, and quality of life (QOL)-related characteristics might differ across subgroups.

Design And Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited 187 pediatric patients with cancer aged 8 to 17 years old and asked them to complete measures of pain intensity, pain duration, pain interference and pain control using the Chinese translation of the validated questionnaire from the Pain Squad app, as well as 7 PROMIS measures assessing QOL-related outcomes.

Crystal Facet Engineering of CoPt Quantum Dots for Diverse Colloidal Heterostructures.

Precise control of crystal orientation, and specifically the exposed surface, is critical for the engineering of heterostructures. Here, using CoPt as a model system, we explore the energetics to expose suitable facets to promote the required heterostructure formation.
