Purpose: We aimed to compare changes in the circulating blood volume (CBV) during emergence from general anesthesia in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and MitraClip implantation.

Method: We included 97 patients who underwent TAVI or MitraClip implantation. The primary outcome was the rate of change in the estimated CBV associated with emergence from general anesthesia.

Study Objective: It remains unclear whether it is the hypotension prediction index itself or goal-directed haemodynamic therapy that mitigates intraoperative hypotension.

Design: A single centre randomised controlled trial.

Setting: Sapporo Medical University Hospital.

WATCHMAN is a percutaneous left atrial appendage closure device that is implanted in patients who are unsuitable for anticoagulation therapy for atrial fibrillation. During WATCHMAN implantation, inducing apnea in the patient is preferable to allow stable deployment. We present three cases in which apneic oxygenation was employed to maintain oxygenation during apnea, and oxygen reserve index (ORi) was measured to evaluate its safety and efficacy.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated early predictive parameters for maximum amplitude in the kaolin with heparinase assay (HKH) during cardiovascular surgeries involving cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB).
  • Data from 23 patients were analyzed, revealing strong correlations between the parameters K and angle with maximum amplitude, indicating their potential utility in predicting coagulation outcomes.
  • The findings highlight that K and angle, along with maximum amplitude, can provide valuable insights for making quick decisions about coagulation management in surgical settings.

Purpose: There is still a lack of robust data on the epidemiology of cardiac arrest during anesthesia. We investigated the frequency and risk factors of cardiac arrest during anesthesia over the past two decades at a tertiary care university hospital in Japan.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 111,851 anesthesia records of patients who underwent surgery under anesthesia between 2000 and 2019.

Background: Remimazolam has less cardiovascular depressant effects than propofol in non-cardiac surgical patients. However, the efficacy and safety of remimazolam in cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) have not been reported. We present a case of successful anesthetic management using remimazolam in cardiac surgery with CPB.

Background: Psoriasis vulgaris, a chronic inflammatory skin disease, rarely causes temporomandibular arthritis. We report a case of difficult airway management of a patient with limited range of motion in the temporomandibular joint and cervical extension caused by psoriatic arthritis.

Case Presentation: A 33-year-old man was scheduled to undergo laparoscopic colectomy.
