Purpose: The study aimed to examine the usefulness of a novel density measurement drill for evaluating cancellous bone density by examining the correlation between computed tomography (CT)-based Misch bone density classification and drilling torque value.

Methods: Bovine ribs were used as the drilling sites for implant placement. Multidetector CT (MDCT) was performed after contrast materials were attached to the drilling sites.

Herein, we report a rare case of localized ureteral amyloidosis in a patient with malignant lymphoma. A 73-year-old female patient visited our institution for a comprehensive examination and treatment of malignant lymphoma. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan and magnetic resonance imaging revealed left hydronephrosis and a left lower ureteral mass.

The di(9-anthryl)methyl (DAntM) radical was synthesized and investigated to elucidate its optical, electrical properties, and reactivity. The generation of the DAntM radical was confirmed by its ESR spectrum, which showed two broad signals. The unpaired electron is primarily localized on the central sp carbon and slightly delocalized over the two anthryl moieties.

Article Synopsis
  • A 72-year-old man with severe heart failure and additional complications like functional mitral regurgitation and an atrial septal defect did not improve with optimal medical therapy.
  • Following careful discussions among a heart team, cardiac resynchronization therapy was implemented as a new treatment strategy.
  • After two weeks of the procedure, the patient's heart failure symptoms improved significantly, with better cardiac function and reduced complications from the atrial septal defect.

Purpose: The calcaneocuboid joint is located in the lateral part of the foot and acts as a major stabilizer for the foot. Injuries to this joint often occur in association with ankle or foot injuries and are frequently overlooked, subsequently causing chronic pain or osteoarthritis. However, the relationship between ligaments surrounding the joint and joint instability remains unclear.

A 43-year-old woman, with a history of uterine fibroids and multiple myomectomy, presented with acute lower abdominal pain. Computed tomography revealed multiple tumors, including a high-density mass in the left lower abdomen indicative of a parasitic leiomyoma undergoing red degeneration. This uncommon condition is due to acute occlusion, often caused by peripheral venous thrombosis at the fibroid edge.

Polyamines, such as putrescine and spermidine, are pivotal in various biological processes across living organisms. Despite their significance, structurally modified polyamines offer a less-explored avenue for discovering bioactive compounds. The limitation is attributed to the synthetic difficulty of accessing functionalized polyamines.

Background: Expression of programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) is related to the prognosis of many solid malignancies, including oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), but the mechanism of PD-L1 induction remains obscure. In this study, we examined the expression of PD-L1 and partial epithelial-mesenchymal transition (pEMT) induced by bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in OSCC.

Methods: The expression of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) recognizing LPS in OSCC cell lines was analyzed.

Dual-task gait systems can be utilized to assess elderly patients for cognitive decline. Although numerous research studies have been conducted to estimate cognitive scores, this field still faces two significant challenges. Firstly, it is crucial to fully utilize dual-task cost representations for diagnosis.

In implant treatment, primary stability and osseointegration are improved by continual intermittent administration of parathyroid hormone (PTH) in patients with osteoporosis. However, the histological and histomorphometric aspects are not clear. The aim of this study was to investigate the histological and histomorphometric effects of intermittent PTH administration on osseointegration in a glucocorticoid-induced osteoporotic rabbit model.

[Purpose] Spatial attention evaluations are beneficial for patients with unilateral spatial neglect or dementia. Thus, such evaluations are crucial among these patients for determining functional disorder extents. The study aimed to determine minimal detectable changes in reaction time to the Posner task among healthy young participants for establishing spatial attention evaluation protocols.

Objectives: Porous titanium is used for the reconstruction of large bone defects due to its excellent mechanical strength. The quality of osseointegration of implants placed in bone reconstructed with porous titanium is unknown. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the osseointegration of implants at sites reconstructed using porous titanium.

Purposes: Lenvatinib (LEN) is a molecular-target drug, used for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It is associated with adverse events (AEs), including hypertension, proteinuria, fatigue, and anorexia, which may force dose reduction or discontinuation. Ninjin'yoeito (NYT) is a Chinese-Japanese herbal compound that can effectively treat fatigue and anorexia, and which has been used for chronic liver diseases.

Objective Percutaneous patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure is a procedure widely used to prevent recurrence of cryptogenic stroke. Since December 2019, the Amplatzer PFO occluder device has been available in Japan through medical insurance. However, data on the clinical experience with this device are lacking, as it has been approved for use in only a limited number of institutions.

Objectives: This study was to investigate suitable surface treatment methods for porous titanium by study of material properties and calcium phosphate deposition in simulated body fluid.

Material And Methods: Porous titanium with acid (HSO and HCl mixed acid) or alkali (NaOH) treatment was prepared. The surfaces were observed, and the weight change ratio (after and before surface treatment) and compression strength were measured.
