Metacognition-Associated Factors in Physical and Occupational Therapy Students: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background/objectives: Supporting the mental well-being of students through their educational journey is of vital importance. The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between metacognition, personality traits, and various factors affecting mental health in a cohort of physical therapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT) students.

Methods: This cross-sectional observational study involved a self-administered questionnaire (distributed in October to November 2020) that gathered demographic information and included six scales measuring personality characteristics, health literacy, self-management skills, exercise habits (benefits and barriers), cognitive thinking, and cognitive deliberateness and impulsivity.

Oral Function, Loneliness, Depression, and Social Participation Among Physically Disabled Middle-Aged and Older Adult Individuals: Insights from a Japanese Cross-Sectional Study.

: In the context of an aging society, physical disability and its relationship with frailty is of growing concern. The aim of this study was to examine the associations between oral function, social participation, and loneliness among community-dwelling middle-aged and older adult physically disabled individuals. : In this cross-sectional study, the participants were 140 individuals with certified physical disabilities living in the studied area.

Development of a Janus tissue adhesive hemostatic patch based on hydrophobically-modified Alaska pollock gelatin.

Uncontrollable hemorrhage from trauma and open surgery leads to a high percentage of death. Even though some patch-type hemostatic materials have been used in the clinic, sufficient tissue adhesion property and the management of tissue adhesion and anti-adhesion have been the challenges. In this report, we designed Janus tissue adhesive hemostatic patch, consisting of Alaska pollock gelatin (Org-ApGltn) as a support layer and decanoyl group-modified ApGltn (C10-ApGltn) with pentaerythritol poly(ethylene glycol) ether tetrasuccinimidyl glutarate (4S-PEG) as an adhesive layer, named as the C10-ApGltn patch.

Multiple thoracolumbar compression fractures induced by glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis and cachexia in a young adult female patient with systemic lupus erythematosus: a case report with a 5-year follow-up.

Background: High doses of glucocorticoids and severe weight loss can cause osteoporosis. We present a case of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis and cachexia in an 18-year-old woman who experienced severe appetite loss leading to weight loss, amenorrhea, and multiple thoracolumbar compression fractures.

Case Presentation: The patient had been receiving high-dose glucocorticoid treatment for systemic lupus erythematosus since the age of 13 and developed unexplained appetite loss since the age of 16.

Impending Atypical Femoral Fracture on the Contralateral Side Progressed to a Complete Fracture Early after Surgery for an Atypical Femoral Fracture: A Case Report.

Introduction: Long-term bisphosphonate (BP) administration may cause an atypical femoral fracture that is occasionally bilateral. We encountered a case of an impending atypical femoral fracture on the contralateral side that progressed to a complete fracture early after surgery for an atypical femoral fracture.

Case Report: An 83-year-old woman who had received long-term BP therapy developed a right femoral atypical incomplete fracture that progressed to a complete fracture 5 days after surgery for an atypical complete left femoral fracture.

Lung cancer detection in perioperative patients' exhaled breath with nanomechanical sensor array.

Introduction: Breath analysis using a chemical sensor array combined with machine learning algorithms may be applicable for detecting and screening lung cancer. In this study, we examined whether perioperative breath analysis can predict the presence of lung cancer using a Membrane-type Surface stress Sensor (MSS) array and machine learning.

Methods: Patients who underwent lung cancer surgery at an academic medical center, Japan, between November 2018 and November 2019 were included.

Effect of romosozumab in premenopausal women with severe osteoporosis and anorexia nervosa.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the effects of romosozumab on bone mineral density (BMD) and bone metabolism.

Methods: In this retrospective case series, romosozumab was administered to 5 premenopausal female patients with osteoporosis and anorexia nervosa with fragility fractures. BMD and bone turnover marker changes were investigated at 6 months and 1 year after administering romosozumab.
