This paper deals with the functionalization of nanocrystalline SnO₂ with Cu(II) complexes with organic ligands, aimed at the improvement of sensor selectivity towards gas molecules. For the synthesis of metalorganic/SnO₂ hybrid material complexes of Cu(II) with phthalocyanine, porphyrinines, bipyridine and azadithiacrown etherwere used. The analysis of gas sensor properties showed the possibility of increasing the sensitivity and selectivity of hybrid materials in H₂S detection due to the electron transfer from SnO₂ to an adsorbed organic molecule, which changes during the interaction between H₂S and Cu(II) ions.

A simple inexpensive technique for collection of airborne biomarkers of nosocomial infections is described. Biomarkers were collected on water-soluble electrospun nanofilters attached to a household vacuum cleaner from 6-10m(3) of air in 10-15min within several wards of a tuberculosis clinic. Filters were then dissolved in water and tested for the presence of the IS6110 and regX3 genes of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) using real-time polymerase chain reaction.

Aim: To estimate the frequency and severity of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with ST-segment elevation acute myocardial infarction (STSEAMI), to specify whether the changes in diuresis and serum creatinine levels are equally sensitive diagnostic criteria for AKI, and to define their prognostic value.

Subjects And Methods: Three hundred and nineteen patients (249 (78%) men and 70 (22%) women; age 58 +/- 10 years) with STSEAMI who received thrombolytic therapy (TLT) were examined. The diagnosis of STSEAMI, indications for and contraindications to TLT, evaluation of its efficiency were made in accordance with the All-Russian Scientific Society of Cardiology guidelines (2007).

We investigated the role of gene polymorphisms in angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), angiotensinogen, endothelial NO (eNO) synthase, and bradykinin receptor B2 in determining the cardiovascular system structure and function in hypertension and "athletic heart" syndrome. Using a PCR-based method, 114 hypertensive patients and 94 athletes were genotyped for I/D polymorphism of ACE, M235T angiotensinogen (ANG), Glu298 Asp endothelial synthase (eNOS), and type 2 receptor for bradykinin (BDKR2). Echocardiography and a 24 hour blood pressure monitoring being performed.

As shown in a trial in 172 patients with chronic obstructive bronchitis suffering from respiratory trouble, chronic cor pulmonale, circulatory insufficiency, combined application of electrical stimulation of the diaphragm with ultrasonic inhalations is much more effective than separate use of these two modalities which, when used together, potentiate positive and abate side effects of each other. The method is simple in application, reduces the duration of the hospital stay, prevents incapacitation.

The article narrates on the domain of the sanitary inspection medical laboratory workers' supervision in the field of industrial chemistry and their experience in handling different physical and chemical analysis techniques. It is indicated that sanitary inspection medical laboratory personnel requires constant postgraduate training. Proposed is the respective training programme adopted at the Institute for Postgraduate Training of Physicians, Moscow, which includes samples' selection, physical and chemical analysis testing and application in specific conditions, statistical assessment of the results obtained.

To measure the concentrations of yttrium-oxide-coated small-dispersed silicon nitride plasma powder, the air was aspirated at the amount of 10-15 litres per min through the AFA-XP filter. The filter was limed in a platinum crucible, the residuum being alloyed with Na2CO3, Na2B4O7, NaNO3 in ratio 10:5:1. The alloy was transferred into solution in which the silicon content was assessed through reactions with ammonium molybdate, and yttrium--through reactions with arsenaso III.

Pathways and rates of metabolism of three 14C1-compounds (methanol, formaldehyde, and formic acid) were investigated by means of the heterogeneous population of activated sludge microorganisms. For the above microbial population formaldehyde was the primary or preferential substrate. During an hour aeration it was processed by activated sludge 6 times faster than by sodium formiate and 2 times faster than by methanol.
