Curvilinear magnetism emerged as a new route to tailor properties of magnetic solitons by the choice of geometry and topology of a magnetic architecture. Here, we develop an anodized aluminum oxide template-based approach to realize hierarchical 3D magnetic nanoarchitectures of nanoflower shape. The technique provides defect-free regular arrays of magnetic nanoflowers of tunable shape with a period of 400 nm over cm areas.

Microbial biofilms have recently emerged as a critical target for treating bacterial infections due to their crucial role in developing antibiotic resistance. The wide-spectrum activity of proteolytic enzymes makes them particularly suitable for disrupting biofilms formed by diverse bacterial species, including dual-species biofilms. In this study, we propose the Protease-Activator of Protein C (PAPC) of human blood plasma, an enzyme produced by the micromycete Aspergillus ochraceus, as a novel tool to degrade the protein scaffold of mono- or dual-species biofilms formed by Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

The mechanisms of action of pyrimidine nucleoside derivatives on model lipid membranes of various compositions were studied. A systematic analysis of the tested agents' effects on the membrane physicochemical properties was performed. Differential scanning microcalorimetry data indicated that the ability of nucleoside derivatives to disorder membrane lipids depended on the types of nucleoside bases and membrane-forming lipids.

Single-molecule fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) experiments are commonly used to study the dynamics of molecular machines. While in vivo molecular processes often break time-reversal symmetry, the temporal directionality of cyclically operating molecular machines is often not evident from single-molecule FRET trajectories, especially in the most common two-color FRET studies. The COVID-19 pandemic placed a spotlight on the potential to dramatically increase the use of telehealth across the cancer care continuum, but whether and how telehealth can be implemented in practice in ways that reduce, rather than exacerbate, inequities are largely unknown. To help fill this critical gap in research and practice, we developed the Framework for Integrating Telehealth Equitably (FITE), a process and evaluation model designed to help guide equitable integration of telehealth into practice. In this manuscript, we present FITE and showcase how investigators across the National Cancer Institute's Telehealth Research Centers of Excellence are applying the framework in different ways to advance digital and health equity.

Monitoring of antimicrobials residues in food of animal origin is performed by control laboratories to ensure public health, and knowledge of the stability of antimicrobials during storage is essential for the reliability of results. For stability studies, analysis of incurred samples is preferential to fortified samples due to the possible conversion of antimicrobial metabolites back to parent compounds during sample preparation, storage, and analysis of the incurred samples, resulting in an increased concentration of the analyte. We have analyzed the concentrations of 13 antimicrobials from 8 groups (tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, phenicols, sulfonamides, aminoglycosides, penicillins, macrolides, and nitroimidazoles) at different time points of freeze-storage (1 week; 1, 2, and 3 months) using HPLC-MS/MS.

Additive nanotechnology enable curvilinear and three-dimensional (3D) magnetic architectures with tunable topology and functionalities surpassing their planar counterparts. Here, we experimentally reveal that 3D soft magnetic wireframe structures resemble compact manifolds and accommodate magnetic textures of high order vorticity determined by the Euler characteristic, χ. We demonstrate that self-standing magnetic tetrapods (homeomorphic to a sphere; χ = + 2) support six surface topological solitons, namely four vortices and two antivortices, with a total vorticity of + 2 equal to its Euler characteristic.
