Introduction: This survey investigates brain MRI practices for isolated GHD among Pediatric Endocrine Society (PES) members, focusing on gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) versus non-contrast MRI.

Methods: A 15-question survey was distributed to 1,553 PES members, capturing data on GBCA usage, non-contrast imaging access, and awareness of gadolinium retention.

Results: A total of 85% of respondents routinely order brain MRIs for isolated GHD, with 60% using GBCAs.

Machine Learning and External Validation of the IDENTIFY Risk Calculator for Patients with Haematuria Referred to Secondary Care for Suspected Urinary Tract Cancer.

Background: The IDENTIFY study developed a model to predict urinary tract cancer using patient characteristics from a large multicentre, international cohort of patients referred with haematuria. In addition to calculating an individual's cancer risk, it proposes thresholds to stratify them into very-low-risk (<1%), low-risk (1-<5%), intermediate-risk (5-<20%), and high-risk (≥20%) groups.

Objective: To externally validate the IDENTIFY haematuria risk calculator and compare traditional regression with machine learning algorithms.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of 3881 randomly selected internal medicine hospital admissions from six acute care hospitals in Toronto and Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

The Impact on Peer Mentorship After Implementation of a Competency-Based Residency Curriculum in Canadian Radiation Oncology Training Programs.

Purpose: Peer mentorship provides professional and personal support between physicians with similar experiences and levels of training. While peer mentorship has shown to benefit academic success and professional growth, little data has examined contextual factors, such as curricular change, that may affect the quality of these relationships. This study aims to explore the impact of a new, nationwide radiation oncology (RO) residency curriculum, known as competence by design (CBD), on peer mentorship experiences between Canadian RO residents.

Enzymes are nature's catalysts, mediating chemical processes in living systems. The study of enzyme function and mechanism includes defining the maximum catalytic rate and affinity for substrate/s (among other factors), referred to as enzyme kinetics. Enzyme kinetics is a staple of biochemistry curricula and other disciplines, from molecular and cellular biology to pharmacology.

Unlabelled: The objective of the present study is assessment of serum trace element and amino acid levels in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) patients with subsequent evaluation of its independent associations with markers of liver injury and metabolic risk.

Materials And Methods: 140 women aged 20-90 years old with diagnosed NAFLD and 140 healthy women with a respective age range were enrolled in the current study. Analysis of serum and hair levels of trace elements and minerals was performed with inductively-coupled plasma mass-spectrometry (ICP-MS).

Modern adjuvant systemic therapies (STs) have revolutionized the management of stage III melanoma. Currently, the role of adjuvant radiotherapy (RT) remains unclear. In this single-center retrospective study, patients with clinically detectable stage III melanoma with high-risk features for lymph node basin (LNB) recurrence and whose tumors were fully resected with complete lymphadenectomy (CLD) between 2010 and 2019 were assessed.

A Qualitative Analysis of Medical Student Reflections Following Participation in a Canadian Radiation Oncology Studentship.

Exposure to radiation oncology in medical school curricula is limited; thus, mentorship and research opportunities like the Dr. Pamela Catton Summer Studentship Program attempt to bridge this gap and stimulate interest in the specialty. In 2021, the studentship was redesigned as virtual research, mentorship, and case-based discussions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Accurate and accessible imaging forms an integral part of the investigation for patients with suspected or known skeletal metastatic disease; it is considered indispensable in making appropriate oncological treatment decisions. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a contemporary imaging modality that provides excellent spatial and contrast resolution for bone and soft tissues.

A randomized controlled trial on the effectiveness of the abridged illness management and recovery program for people with schizophrenia spectrum disorders.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of an abridged version of the Illness Management and Recovery Programme (AIMR) that was modified and developed in Hong Kong through a mult-centre randomized controlled trial for patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders.

Methods: This study was implemented in 10 occupational therapy departments, psychiatric day hospitals of 7 Hospital Authority clusters in Hong Kong. A total of 211 patients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder was recruited and randomized into either the experimental or the control condition.

Background: The establishment of the anterior-posterior (A-P) axis is a crucial step during tissue repair and regeneration. Despite the association reported recently of -methyladenosine (m6A) with regeneration, the mechanism underlying the regulation of m6A in A-P axis specification during regeneration remains unknown. Herein, we deciphered the m6A landscape at a single-base resolution at multiple time points during A-P axis regeneration and constructed the transcriptome assembly of the planarian.

Integrating testing for sexually transmissible infections into annual health assessments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people: a cross-sectional analysis.

Background: In the context of an expanding syphilis epidemic, we assessed the integration of sexually transmissible infection (STI) testing within annual health assessments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people aged 16-29years in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services between 2018 and 2020.

Methods: Using routinely collected electronic medical record data from a national sentinel surveillance system (ATLAS), we performed a cross-sectional analysis to calculate the proportion of assessments that integrated any or all of the tests for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, and HIV. We used logistic regression to identify correlates of integration of any STI test.

Automated identification of unstandardized medication data: a scalable and flexible data standardization pipeline using RxNorm on GEMINI multicenter hospital data.

Objective: Patient data repositories often assemble medication data from multiple sources, necessitating standardization prior to analysis. We implemented and evaluated a medication standardization procedure for use with a wide range of pharmacy data inputs across all drug categories, which supports research queries at multiple levels of granularity.

Methods: The GEMINI-RxNorm system automates the use of multiple RxNorm tools in tandem with other datasets to identify drug concepts from pharmacy orders.

Arterio-Ureteral Fistula: A Rare Elusive Cause of Significant Hematuria.

Arterioureteral fistula (AUF) is a direct communication between the ureter and an artery and is a rare cause of catastrophic, life-threatening haematuria. Fistulation may occur between the ureter and the abdominal aorta, common iliac, external and internal iliac, and inferior mesenteric arteries, and is typically observed in patients with a prior history of pelvic radiotherapy, oncological pelvic surgeries, aortoiliac vascular procedures, and pelvic exenteration. There is also an increased frequency of cases amongst patients who have undergone urological diversion surgeries and in those with chronic indwelling ureteric stents requiring repeated exchange.

Checkpoint immunotherapy has yielded meaningful responses across many cancers but has shown modest efficacy in advanced prostate cancer. B7 homolog 3 protein (B7-H3/) is an immune checkpoint molecule and has emerged as a promising therapeutic target. However, much remains to be understood regarding B7-H3's role in cancer progression, predictive biomarkers for B7-H3-targeted therapy, and combinatorial strategies.

The brain is the key organ that orchestrates the stress response which translates to the retina. The retina is an extension of the brain and retinal symptoms in subjects with neurodegenerative diseases substantiated the eye as a window to the brain. The retina is used in this study to determine whether chronic stress reflects neurodegenerative signs indicative of neurodegenerative conditions.

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) has been increasingly recognized as a new and important regulator of gene expression. To date, transcriptome-wide m6A detection primarily relies on well-established methods using next-generation sequencing (NGS) platform. However, direct RNA sequencing (DRS) using the Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) platform has recently emerged as a promising alternative method to study m6A.

In Australia, gonococcal isolates are monitored for antimicrobial susceptibilities. In Western Australia (WA), gonorrhoea notification rates increased by 63 % between 2013 and 2016, with the steepest increase occurring between 2015 and 2016, before stabilizing at this higher baseline between 2017 and 2020. This increased prevalence was associated with antimicrobial-susceptible (AMS) lineages.

High-precision mapping reveals rare N-deoxyadenosine methylation in the mammalian genome.

N-deoxyadenosine methylation (6mA) is the most widespread type of DNA modification in prokaryotes and is also abundantly distributed in some unicellular eukaryotes. However, 6mA levels are remarkably low in mammals. The lack of a precise and comprehensive mapping method has hindered more advanced investigations of 6mA.

Obesity, but not glycemic control, predicts liver steatosis in children with type 1 diabetes.

Objective: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), the most common liver disease in children, is strongly associated with obesity and insulin resistance. Although type 1 diabetes (T1D) is characterized by insulin deficiency, increasing obesity rates among children with T1D is a major risk factor for NAFLD in this patient population. Predisposing factors for NAFLD in children with T1D are not known.
