Left portal vein thrombosis as an unusual complication following acute cholecystitis: case report and literature review.

Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is a rare but potentially severe condition that is typically associated with underlying haematological disorders, genetic mutations, or liver diseases such as cirrhosis. However, PVT resulting from acute cholecystitis is an exceedingly uncommon occurrence with few documented cases. This report describes the case of a 44-year-old man who presented with acute right upper quadrant pain and was diagnosed with acute cholecystitis complicated by left-sided PVT, which was managed with anticoagulants and laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Comparison of MyDispense with in-person simulation in drug information training of pharmacy curriculum - a randomized cross-over study.

Background: Drug information training is restricted to pharmacy students due to the lack of opportunities for training and the inadequate number of drug information centers. Drug information simulation requires manpower and is time-consuming to arrange. MyDispense (MD) is widely accepted by numerous pharmacy schools and plays a major role in training students for various courses in the pharmacy curriculum.

The stent-over-sponge (SOS) technique is a new modality used as a rescue option when other interventions fail. This report presents the case of a 60-year-old female patient who underwent revisional bariatric surgery and developed a leak post-operation.

Unlabelled: Hymenoptera stings can lead to a different range of local and systemic reactions. However, rare and unexpected reactions can develop and may be life threatening. In this paper, we present a 29-year-old female who developed anaphylactic shock followed by paraparesis and paraesthesia after a black ant sting.

Efficacy and challenges involving combination therapies in CLL.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), a malignant tumour, is characterized by expansion of mature monoclonal B lymphocytes expressing CD23 and CD5 in secondary lymphocytic organs, blood, and bone marrow. Here, we provide an in-depth review of CLL, emphasizing its pathophysiology, cytogenic changes, and treatment strategies, particularly the efficacy and challenges of treatments, such as Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitors, B cell lymphoma 2 (BCL2) inhibitors, and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) inhibitors, as well as the need to understand their role in managing disease progression, chemoresistance, and intolerance. In addition, we explore efficacy based on patient response and comparison between monotherapy and combination therapy.

Here, we report on a case of a 24-year-old female who is previously medically healthy. She was admitted with a case of gastroenteritis. During her hospitalization, we noticed that the patient's wrists and metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints were flexed, with her bilateral proximal (PIP) and distal (DIP) interphalangeal joints extended.

Impact of automated drug dispensing system on patient safety.

Objectives: Automated drug dispensing system (ADDs) is an emerging technology positively impacts drug dispensing efficiency by minimizing medication errors. However, the pharmacist perception of the impact of ADDs on patient safety is not well-established. Case Report: Endoscopic Removal of an Eroded Gastric Band Causing Small Bowel Obstruction upon Migration into the Proximal Jejunum.

Background: Adjustable gastric banding (AGB) is on the decline due to its relatively modest amount of expected weight loss, coupled with high rates of revision and complications such as band erosion. Management of eroded gastric bands can be challenging especially when complete intra-gastric erosion is followed by distal migration causing small bowel obstruction.
