Background: Glenoid bone loss represents a challenge in shoulder arthroplasty and often precludes standard implants. The CAD-CAM total shoulder replacement (TSR) is an option in these cases. This study aimed to assess survivorship and long-term patient outcomes of the CAD-CAM TSR.

Management of periprosthetic joint infection of the shoulder: A narrative review.

Evidence for management of shoulder periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) has traditionally originated from the hip and knee literature. The differing microbiome, anatomy and implants used in the shoulder mean this evidence is not always directly transferrable. The 2018 Philadelphia International Consensus Meeting for the first-time produced evidence-based guidelines and diagnostic criteria relating specifically to PJI of the shoulder.

Theoretical study of the antioxidant mechanism and structure-activity relationships of 1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-ylthieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4-amine derivatives: a computational approach.

A theoretical thermodynamic study was conducted to investigate the antioxidant activity and mechanism of 1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-ylthieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4-amine derivatives (OTP) using a Density Functional Theory (DFT) approach. The study assessed how solvent environments influence the antioxidant properties of these derivatives. With the increasing prevalence of diseases linked to oxidative stress, such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases, antioxidants are crucial in mitigating the damage caused by free radicals.

Mesenchymal stem cells biological and biotechnological advances: Implications for clinical applications.

Background: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent stem cells that are able to differentiate into multiple lineages including bone, cartilage, muscle and fat. They hold immunomodulatory properties and therapeutic ability to treat multiple diseases, including autoimmune and chronic degenerative diseases. In this article, we reviewed the different biological properties, applications and clinical trials of MSCs.

Laparoscopic Versus Open Surgery for Colorectal Cancers: Clinical and Pathological Outcomes from a Single Institution in Bahrain.

Introduction: Colorectal carcinoma is commonly diagnosed and accounts for an important cause of cancerrelated mortality worldwide. Despite that literature has shown the superiority of laparoscopic surgery, with improved short-term clinical benefits and equivalent oncological outcomes compared with open surgery for colorectal cancer, most cases are operated by open approach. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical and pathological outcomes between laparoscopic and open colorectal cancer surgery at our institution.

A systematic review of the treatment of distal humerus fractures in older adults: A comparison of surgical and non-surgical options.

Background: Fractures of the distal humerus are a common fragility fracture in older adults. The purpose of this study was to systematically review the literature to produce pooled estimates of the outcomes of treatment using total elbow arthroplasty (TEA), open reduction and locking plate fixation (ORIF), hemiarthroplasty or with conservative management.

Methods: A systematic review of PUBMED and EMBASE databases was conducted for studies reporting outcomes of intra-articular fractures in older adults.

The Arab region is experiencing the largest youth cohort in its history. Parental influence is a clear factor in the well-being of this demographic. This scoping review serves as the first consolidated synthesis of existing research on parenting in the Arab world, aimed at identifying research gaps and informing future research agendas.

Avanafil: A comprehensive drug profile.

Avanafil is an oral medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). As a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor, it functions by inhibiting the PDE5 enzyme, which ultimately results in increased levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) and improved blood flow to the penis. Approved by the FDA in 2012, avanafil is recognised for its rapid onset of action, short half-life, and favourable side-effects profile.

Associations Between Hypothyroidism and Subclinical Atherosclerosis Among Male and Female Patients Without Clinical Disease Referred to Computed Tomography.

Objectives: Hypothyroidism is recognized as a risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD). However, reports are conflicting when the results are stratified by sex and the underlying risk of CAD. We examine the sex-specific associations of hypothyroidism with coronary calcification and plaques.

Arthroscopic capsular shift surgery in patients with atraumatic shoulder joint instability: a randomised, placebo-controlled trial.

Objectives: To determine the effect of arthroscopic capsular shift surgery on pain and functional impairment for people with atraumatic shoulder (glenohumeral) joint instability.

Methods: We conducted a randomised, placebo-controlled clinical trial in a specialist secondary care facility. Patients aged 18 years and over who reported insecurity (apprehension) in their shoulder joint and had evidence of capsulolabral damage on arthroscopic examination were included.

Toward MBenes Battery Electrode Materials: Layered Molybdenum Borides for Li-Ion Batteries.

Lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries (LIBs and SIBs) are crucial in our shift toward sustainable technologies. In this work, the potential of layered boride materials (MoAlB and Mo AlB ) as novel, high-performance electrode materials for LIBs and SIBs, is explored. It is discovered that Mo AlB shows a higher specific capacity than MoAlB when used as an electrode material for LIBs, with a specific capacity of 593 mAh g achieved after 500 cycles at 200 mA g .

Objective: To undertake a UK-based James Lind Alliance (JLA) Priority Setting Partnership for elbow conditions and be representative of the views of patients, carers and healthcare professionals (HCPs).

Setting: This was a national collaborative study organised through the British Elbow and Shoulder Society.

Participants: Adult patients, carers and HCPs who have managed or experienced elbow conditions, their carers and HCPs in the UK involved in managing of elbow conditions.

Thermodynamic and Computational (DFT) Study of Non-Covalent Interaction Mechanisms of Charge Transfer Complex of Linagliptin with 2,3-Dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ) and Chloranilic acid (CHA).

This study describes the non-covalent interactions of the charge transfer complex (CT), which was responsible for the synthesis of Linagliptin (LNG) with 2,3-Dichloro-5,6-Dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ), or with Chloranilic acid (CHA) complexes in acetonitrile (MeCN) at temperatures of (25 ± 2 °C). Then, a UV-Vis spectrophotometer was utilized to identify Linagliptin (LNG) from these complexes. For the quantitative measurement of Linagliptin in bulk form, UV-Vis techniques have been developed and validated in accordance with ICH criteria for several aspects, including selectivity, linearity, accuracy, precision, LOD, LOQ, and robustness.

Background: Blood lipids are strong risk factors for the progression of atherosclerotic plaques. However, data on gender-specific associations are limited.

Objectives: To examine gender-specific associations of coronary plaque with blood lipids among a large sample of Saudi patients without CAD.

A Game-Theoretic Approach to Improve Energy-Related Data.

With the increase in the energy demand, the magnitude of energy production operation increased in scale and complexity and went too far in remote areas. To manage such a big fleet, sensors were installed to send real-time data to operation centers, where subject matter experts monitor the operations and provide live support. Transition Metal Carbo-Chalcogenide "TMCC:" A New Family of 2D Materials.

Here, a new family of 2D transition metal carbo-chalcogenides (TMCCs) is reported, which can be considered a combination of two well-known families, TM carbides (MXenes) and TM dichalcogenides (TMDCs), at the atomic level. Single sheets are successfully obtained from multilayered Nb S C and Ta S C using electrochemical lithiation followed by sonication in water. The parent multilayered TMCCs are synthesized using a simple, scalable solid-state synthesis followed by a topochemical reaction.

We present a novel, intraoperative robotics platform, capable of rapid, real-time manufacture of low-cost patient-specific guides while overcoming many of the issues with existing approaches.
