Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) is a common disorder of the elderly, a prominent comorbidity of Alzheimer's disease, and causes vascular cognitive impairment and dementia. Previously, we generated a novel transgenic rat model (rTg-D) that produces human familial CAA Dutch E22Q mutant amyloid β-protein (Aβ) in brain and develops arteriolar CAA type-2. Here, we show that deposition of fibrillar Aβ promotes arteriolar smooth muscle cell loss and cerebral microhemorrhages that can be detected by magnetic resonance imaging and confirmed by histopathology.

No regulations currently require the excision of lymph nodes from pig carcasses or the thermal processing of pork before consumption. Therefore, the presence of anatomopathological lesions with signs of coagulation necrosis in lymph nodes from pigs during post-mortem inspection is concerning, as is the increasing incidence of mycobacteriosis in humans. Hypertension, a prominent non-amyloidal CSVD, has been found to increase risk of dementia, but clinical data regarding its effects in CAA patients is controversial. In this study, we used live viral particles from oral secretions from 17 people infected with SARS-CoV-2 and from 17 healthy volunteers, which were plated on a suitable medium complete for all microorganisms and minimal for growth. Both types of media also contained an appropriately prepared vector system pGEM-5Zf (+) based on the lactose operon (beta-galactosidase system). Incubation was carried out on both types of media for 24 h with the addition of 200 μL of Salistat SGL03 solution in order to test its inhibitory effect on the coronavirus contained in the oral mucosa and nasopharynx, visible as light blue virus particles on the test plates, which gradually disappeared in the material collected from infected persons over time.
