Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) show limited success in treating pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), largely due to immune evasion mechanisms, including downregulating expression of major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC-I). Our retrospective analysis demonstrated that smoking - a state of elevated CO exposure - is correlated with increased MHC I expression in pancreatic tumors. Here we tested our hypothesis that introducing exogenous CO augments the anti-cancer effects of immunotherapy.

A new, to the best of our knowledge, method for inscribing fiber Bragg gratings inside a fiber's cladding based on the motorized rotation of the fiber is reported. By minimizing the aberrations induced by the fiber curvature on the femtosecond writing beam, this technique based on a phase mask allows to cover large transverse areas of a standard high-power fiber's cladding. With this approach, a first-order Bragg grating was inscribed in the pure-silica inner cladding of a 20/400-µm fiber.

Whilst marine resources are one of the pillars of the Mediterranean diet, their mode of acquisition and subsequent consumption by medieval populations in southern France are still not well known. Throughout Europe, bioarchaeological techniques, however, are beginning to reveal hitherto unknown aspects of these practices both dating to the medieval period as well as other periods of history and prehistory. Tertiary lymphoid structures (TLS) are ectopically formed aggregates of organized lymphocytes and antigen-presenting cells that occur in solid tissues as part of a chronic inflammation response. Sharing structural and functional characteristics with conventional secondary lymphoid organs (SLO) including discrete T cell zones, B cell zones, marginal zones with antigen presenting cells, reticular stromal networks, and high endothelial venues (HEV), TLS are prominent centers of antigen presentation and adaptive immune activation within the periphery. TLS share many signaling axes and leukocyte recruitment schemes with SLO regarding their formation and function.

The field of flow cytometry has witnessed rapid technological advancements in the last few decades. While the founding principles of fluorescent detection on cells (or particles) within a uniform fluid stream remains largely unchanged, the availability more sensitive cytometers with the ability to multiplex more and more florescent signals has resulted in very complex high-order assays. This results in the co-use of fluorophores with increased levels of emission overlap and/or spillover spreading than in years past and thus requires careful and well thought out planning for flow cytometry assay development.

Cereblon (CRBN), a substrate receptor of the DDB1-cullin-RING E3 ubiquitin ligase complex, is the only molecular target for this drug class, where drug-induced, ubiquitin-dependent degradation of known "neosubstrates," such as IKAROS, AIOLOS, and CK1α, accounts for their biological activity.
