Signet ring cell carcinoma of the ampulla of vater: Report of a case and a review of the literature.

Introduction: Signet ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) of the ampulla of vater is a very rare tumor that is reported infrequently in the literature.

Presentation Of Case: A 59-year-old woman visited our hospital for evaluation of elevated transaminase levels. On laboratory examination of tumor marker levels, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and carbohydrate antigen (CA) 19-9 levels were normal, and DUPAN-2 was elevated.

Protective effects of baicalein against excess L-DOPA-induced dopamine quinone neurotoxicity.

Objectives: Baicalein, a flavonoid derived from the root of Scutelaria baicalensis Georgi, possesses anti-oxidative properties including reactive oxygen species scavenging and lipid peroxidation inhibiting activities. The present study was undertaken to investigate the neuroprotective effect of baicalein against dopamine (DA) neurotoxicity induced by exposure to a synthetic DA precursor, L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA), in cultured dopaminergic CATH.a cells.

Two cases of treatment with infliximab which replaced long-term home parenteral nutrition and maintained remission in patients with Crohn disease.

[Case 1] A 41-year-old man had undergone multiple bowel resections and consequently short bowel syndrome with high-output jejunostomy developed. In July 2008, he started infliximab (IFX) treatment and achieved remission and recovery from cholestatic liver damage following the cessation of home parenteral nutrition (HPN). [Case 2] A 29-year-old woman chose HPN over enteral nutrition because of high-output fecal fluids through a rectovaginal fistula.
