Aim: We investigated the potential benefits of administering a nutraceutical combination of Bromelain (200 mg) and Boswellia serrata Casperome® (200 mg) on post-operative outcomes of hernioplasty with mesh.
Methods: One hundred eighty patients (27 females, 153 males) were enrolled to undergo open tension-free hernioplasty with the use of Progrip®. Patients were randomized to receive either one tablet of Siben® (study group) or placebo (control group) on an empty stomach, every twelve hours for eleven postoperative days.
This research aimed to support police forces in their battle against illicit drug trafficking by means of a multi-technique approach, based on gas chromatography. In detail, this study was focused on the profiling of volatile substances in narcotic Cannabis sativa L. flowering tops.

Various techniques like anterior component separation and posterior component separation (PCS) with transversus abdominis release (TAR) have been employed. Despite the initial success, the long-term efficacy of TAR is not yet comprehensively studied.

While antiviral antibodies are protective, those targeting interferons and other immune factors are associated with adverse coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outcomes. Here we discovered that antibodies against specific chemokines were omnipresent post-COVID-19, were associated with favorable disease outcome and negatively correlated with the development of long COVID at 1 yr post-infection.

The posterior component separation with TAR (PCS-TAR) has become the procedure of choice to repair most complex abdominal wall defects, including those with loss of domain, subxiphoid, subcostal, parastomal or after trauma and sepsis treated initially with "open abdomen" and in those scenarios in which the fascia closure was not performed to avoid an abdominal compartment syndrome. Most recent studies showed that the PCS-TAR represents a valid procedure in recurrent IH.

In particular, we have fabricated the first sensor device based on an optical array for the detection of TNT in real samples by using a smartphone as detector. The possibility to use a common smartphone as detector leads to a prototype that can be also used in a real-life field application.

We analysed the better way to fashion a handsewn intracorporeal enterotomy closure after a stapled anastomosis.
Methods: All 579 consecutive patients from January 2009 to December 2019 who underwent minimally invasive partial gastrectomy for gastric cancer were retrospectively analysed.
Severe respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) uses the androgen receptor (AR), through ACE2 receptor and TMPRSS2, to enter nasal and upper airways epithelial cells. Genetic analyses revealed that P1245C polymorphic variant increases dihydrotestosterone production and upregulation of TMPRSS2 with respect to P1245A variant, thus possibly influencing SARS-CoV-2 infection. Our aim was to characterize the polymorphism status and its potential association with clinical outcomes in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 in Southern Switzerland.

While antiviral antibodies are protective, those targeting interferons and other immune factors are associated with adverse COVID-19 outcomes. Instead, we discovered that antibodies against specific chemokines are omnipresent after COVID-19, associated with favorable disease, and predictive of lack of long COVID symptoms at one year post infection.

The Italian Society of Obesity Surgery (SICOB) requires at least 25 operations per year to achieve the standard of care in the field. Despite the increasing need to treat obese patients, some small southern regions of Italy, such as Molise, do not have enough experience in bariatric procedures to be allowed to perform them.

We implemented a standardized, physiology-based, ICU admission criteria and analyzed the mortality rate of patients refused from the ICU.
Materials And Methods: In this retrospective observational study, COVID-19 patients proposed for ICU admission were consecutively analyzed; Do-Not-Resuscitate patients were excluded.
: Malignant gastric outlet obstruction (MGOD) is an extremely rare expression of advanced extra-gastrointestinal cancer, such as squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the cervix, and only sixcases are described in the literature.Because of the short life expectancyand the high surgical risk involving these patients, less invasive approaches have been developed over time, such asthe use of an enteral stent or less invasive surgical techniques (i.e.

When IMV setting is extremely aggressive, especially through the application of high positive-end-expiratory respiration (PEEP) values, lung damage can occur. Until today, in COVID-19 patients, two types of ARDS were identified (L- and H-type); for the L-type, a was supposed to be preferred, but data are still missing.

Clinically, metastatic deposits in the scrotum can present in a variety of ways. They may appear as solitary cutaneous nodules, papules, plaques, or generalized induration or edema.

Furthermore, a misleading diagnosis of epilepsy may be detrimental for the patient as it often implies an over-prescription and an over-use of antiepileptic drugs which can cause adverse reactions. Moreover, a wrong diagnosis also causes distress to the patient with the risk of performing plenty of investigations without any benefits on the symptoms.

This study attempted to use the co-evolving endophytes of peanut to alleviate salinity stress and enhance the yield of peanut. Diverse and different tissue colonizing endophytes were isolated from peanut and screened by seed germination bioassay imposing gradients of salinity, with two cultivars TG37A (susceptible) and GG2 (moderately resistant), in potted conditions using saline irrigation water.

The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to assess the efficacy of hepatectomy for GCLM and to analyze the impact of related prognostic factors on long-term outcomes.
Methods: The databases PubMed (Medline), EMBASE, and Google Scholar were searched for relevant articles from January 2010 to September 2020.
Introduction: Unhealthy lifestyles may hinder bariatric surgery outcomes. This non-randomized controlled study aimed to evaluate the effects of an integrated post-operative exercise-based educational and motivational program in improving behaviors, quality of life, anthropometric features, cardiorespiratory and physical fitness in bariatric patients respect to the only surgical intervention.
Methods: A group of adult sedentary bariatric patients chose to attend a 12-month exercise program integrated with diet education and motivational support, or to receive usual care.
Importance: Vulvar melanosis is a common pigmentary change that accounts for most pigmented vulvar lesions. It presents as single or multiple asymptomatic macules or patches of varying size and color that may be asymmetric with poorly defined borders. The differential diagnosis of melanocytic lesions includes melanoma, which creates anxiety for patients and the physicians who diagnose the condition and treat the patients.

The Italian Group of Minimally Invasive Pancreas Surgery (IGoMIPS) was created under the auspices of three Scientific Societies: Associazione Italiana Studio Pancreas (AISP), Associazione Italiana Chirurgia Epato-Bilio-Pancreatica (AICEP, former IT-IHPBA), and Società Italiana di Chirurgia Endoscopica (SICE). The main aim of IGoMIPS is to develop and implement a national registry for MIPS.
