Same-day discharge (SDD) after Laparoscopic Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass (LRYGB) faces resistance due to possible undetected postoperative complications. These present with changes in vital signs, which continuous remote monitoring devices can detect. This study compared continuous vital signs monitoring using the Isansys Patient Status Engine™ with standard nursing vital signs measurements to assess the device's reliability in postoperative surveillance of patients undergoing LRYGB.

Objective: The objective of this study is to estimate the prevalence of chronic Chagas disease (CCD) in Brazil: in the general population, in women, and in women of childbearing age.
Methods: A meta-analysis of the literature was conducted to extract data on the prevalence of CCD in municipalities in Brazil in the 2010-2022 period: in the general population, in women, and in women of childbearing age. Municipal-level CCD indicators available in health information systems were selected.
TiO-based visible-light-sensitive nanomaterials are widely studied for photocatalytic applications under UV-Vis radiation. Among the mechanisms of visible-light sensitization, extrinsic oxygen vacancies have been introduced into TiO and charge-transfer complexes (CTCs) have been formed between chelating ligands, such as acetylacetone, and nanocrystalline TiO (TiO-ACAC). However, the influence of extrinsic oxygen vacancies on the photocatalytic performance of TiO-based CTCs is unknown.

Background: Fraudulent practices used to distort the quality of milk and derivatives include the addition of formaldehyde.
Results: A formaldehyde sensor was developed based on the luminescence of newly proposed N-doped graphene quantum dots modified with silver (N-GQDs-Ag) that were prepared using a simple method. A microdroplet of the nanoparticle dispersion was used to collect formaldehyde vapor by headspace single-drop micro-extraction (HS-SDME).
AMO-type ceramics are potentially useful in a variety of applications due to their peculiar thermal and mechanical properties. In addition, their intrinsic coefficients of thermal expansion can be finely tuned through different mechanisms. Despite the great influence of extrinsic point defects on physical properties, only a few reports have dealt with their relationship to thermal expansion and thermal conductivity.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFriction is a ubiquitous manifestation of nature, and when it is studied at the nanoscale, complex and interesting effects arise from fundamental physical and chemical surface properties. Surprisingly, and probably due to the complexity of nanofriction studies, this aspect has not been completely discussed in prior studies. To fully consider the physicochemical influence in nanoscale friction, amorphous carbon films with different amounts of hydrogen and fluorine were prepared, chemically characterized, and evaluated via lateral force microscopy.

The morphology of the interface between graphene and germanium influences the electronic properties and has not already been completely elucidated at atomic scale. In this work, we investigated the morphology of the single-layer graphene grown on Ge substrates with different crystallographic orientations.

Three-dimensional hierarchical materials are prepared upon the application of the ice segregation-induced self-assembly (ISISA) process. The use of ice as structure-directing agents avoids chemicals typically used for this purpose (e.

Synthesis of photocatalysts, such as anatase TiO, with more reactive, non-equilibrium, crystallographic facets is theoretically justified by a more efficient interfacial charge transfer to reactive adsorbed species, increasing quantum efficiency of photocatalyst. Air and vacuum calcinations of protonated trititanate nanotubes lead to their transformation to anatase nanorods.

Bariatric surgery is the best solution to weight loss and improvement of complications in morbid obese patients. This study aims to analyze the evolution of type 2 diabetes mellitus and psychopathologic variables before and after bariatric surgery and assess the importance of different variables in weight loss.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBariatric surgery is an effective treatment for weight loss, but the patient's ability to reach a sustained weight loss depends upon several technical and individual factors. Creating an easy model that adapts bariatric surgery's weight loss goals for each patient is very important for pre-surgery and follow-up evaluations.

Low modulus of elasticity and the presence of non-toxic elements are important criteria for the development of materials for implant applications. Low modulus Ti alloys can be developed by designing β-Ti alloys containing non-toxic alloying elements such as Nb and Zr. Actually, most of the metallic implants are produced with stainless steel (SS) because it has adequate bulk properties to be used as biomaterials for orthopedic or dental implants and is less expensive than Ti and its alloys, but it is less biocompatible than them.
