Rapid, quantitative, and sensitive detection of viral oligonucleotides can help to diagnose the infection before symptoms occur, monitor disease progression, and identify viral subtypes. A one-pot, simple, rapid hairpin-mediated nicking enzymatic signal amplification (HNESA) method was previously developed for nucleic acids detection. In the present work, this method was applied for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA by designing an assistant probe (AP) that contains the complementary sequence for the target, the sequence of hybridization with the loop region of the molecular beacon (MB), and the recognition site of the nicking endonuclease Nt.

We report the case of an 83-year-old female patient presenting with uremic symptoms, rapidly progressive kidney failure, and a high titer of anti-glomerular basement membrane antibodies. Given the urgent need for kidney replacement therapy, the substantial fibrosis and glomerular scarring observed in the kidney biopsy suggesting a chronic process, and the absence of pulmonary involvement, neither immunosuppressive treatment nor plasmapheresis was initiated, since a low likelihood of a favorable response to these interventions was expected.

Therefore, we hypothesize that the consumption of cashew nuts associated with a healthy diet may enhance antioxidant defenses and improve anthropometric and body composition parameters in individuals with obesity. We conducted a 12-week randomized clinical trial, divided into 4 sessions, involving adolescents randomly assigned to receive either 30 g of roasted cashew nuts together with nutrition education (cashew nut group-CNG) or only nutrition education (control group-CG).

This article aimed to analyze the growth and survival of children with CZS born with microcephaly and children who developed with microcephaly after birth in the 36-month period.
Methods: This is a cohort of children diagnosed with CZS who were monitored in a series of outpatient appointments, with clinical and demographic information and anthropometric measurements collected.
Background/objectives: The associations between low birth weight (LBW) and the aggregation of metabolic risk factors (MRF) in youth remain ambiguous. Thus, this study analysed the interrelationship among MRF, LBW, and behavioural factors in adolescents.
Methods: The sample of the present cross-sectional study comprised 491 youth (229 males, 262 females) aged 14-17 years.
Background: Leishmaniasis, caused by Leishmania protozoan parasites transmitted by Phlebotomine sand flies, is a significant public health concern in the Mediterranean basin. Effective monitoring of Leishmania-infected sand flies requires standardized tools for comparing their distribution and infection prevalence. Consistent quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) parameters and efficient DNA extraction protocols are crucial for reliable results over time and across regions.

Its injury is often evaluated with orthopedic tests during physical examination, but this turns out to be a subjective assessment. A knee arthrometer is a mechanical device developed in the 1970s to improve the diagnostic accuracy of anterior cruciate ligament injury.

This study aimed to perform a systematic literature review covering PV clinical and histopathological aspects and treatment. The literature searches were carried out in the Pubmed, Periódicos Capes, Scopus, Science Direct, Web of Science and Scielo databases.

The maxillary first molars of 48 rats were divided into F18, F18Co, CH, and control (no intervention) groups. The pulp was exposed, the materials were placed, and the teeth were capped.

Thirty-two animals were divided into the following four groups: control, EtOH, apical periodontitis, and EtOH + apical periodontitis. Ethanol exposure (3 g/kg 20 % w/v EtOH) was performed by orogastric gavage for 3 consecutive days, followed by 4 days of withdrawal for 4 weeks.

Thus, we aimed to determine the significance of congenital hypertrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium as a phenotypic marker of the disease.
Methods: A family consisting of 95 individuals was evaluated.
spp. has emerged as a pathogen that is affecting global aquaculture, with , , and causing piscine lactococcosis. While antimicrobials are commonly used to treat diseases in aquaculture, reports of antimicrobial resistance in fish isolates are increasing.

There are three forms of the disease: cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) manifested by ulcers and scars; systemic or visceral leishmaniasis (VL), which can lead to life-threatening complications if left untreated; and mucocutaneous leishmaniasis (MCL), which can destroy the mucous membranes of the nose, mouth and throat. Human leishmaniasis is endemic in many countries across Africa, Asia, Southern Europe, the Middle East, and Central and South America.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death. The use of computational methods to quantify changes that are not perceptible to the human eye is increasing in digital pathology imaging and has quickly improved detection rates at a low cost. Therefore, the present study aims to use complex computational shape markers as tools for automated analysis of the spatial distribution of cells in microscopy images of squamous cell lung carcinoma (SqCC).

Microbial fibrinolytic proteases have emerged as promising alternatives due to their affordability, specificity, lower toxicity, and reduced side effects. Consequently, the search for microorganisms capable of producing these enzymes has gained significant economic importance in the pharmaceutical industry.

Although it is an aggressive condition, its causes are not yet fully understood. The treatment of resorptions depends on their extent, location and the material used.

However, their translation to clinical practice strongly depends on efficient technologies to produce substantial levels of these biomolecules, with high purity and high quality. RNAs are commonly produced by chemical or enzymatic methods, displaying these limitations.
