Association of SARS-CoV-2 Infection during pregnancy with placental weight and histopathologic lesions.

Introduction: The reported gross and histopathologic changes in the placenta associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection are heterogeneous. We sought to summarize placental histopathologic findings from pregnancies affected by SARS-CoV-2 infection according to timing of infection and symptom severity.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy who had deliveries at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, from April 2020 through June 2021.

Quantitative Abdominal Arterial Calcification Correlates with Kidney Transplant Waitlist Mortality.

Introduction: The scarcity of available organs for kidney transplantation has resulted in a substantial waiting time for patients with end-stage kidney disease. This prolonged wait contributes to an increased risk of cardiovascular mortality. Calcification of large arteries is a high-risk factor in the development of cardiovascular diseases, and it is common among candidates for kidney transplant.

Bariatric surgery reduces odds of perioperative complications after inpatient hysterectomy: Analysis from a national database, 2016 to 2018.

Background: Increased body mass index is a known risk factor for increased adverse events post-hysterectomy. The effects of previous bariatric surgery on outcomes after inpatient hysterectomy are not well elucidated.

Methods: The 2016 to 2018 National Inpatient Sample was queried for patients who underwent hysterectomy using International Classification of Disease 10 Procedure Codes before a matched analysis was performed to neutralize the potential confounding effects of comorbidities, body mass index, and age.

Vitrification versus slow freezing of human ovarian tissue: a systematic review and meta-analysis of histological outcomes.

A systematic review and meta-analysis of pertinent literature published from 2006 to January 2022 were conducted to study and compare vitrification and slow freezing, the two prominent methods of ovarian tissue cryopreservation. The primary outcome measures for this study were (1) proportion of intact primordial follicles, (2) proportion of intact stromal cells, (3) proportion of DNA fragmentation in primordial follicles, and (4) mean primordial follicle density. This meta-analysis of 19 studies revealed a significantly greater proportion of intact stromal cells in vitrified tissue versus slow-frozen tissue.
