Microelectrode array (MEA) recordings are commonly used to compare firing and burst rates in neuronal cultures. MEA recordings can also reveal microscale functional connectivity, topology, and network dynamics-patterns seen in brain networks across spatial scales. Network topology is frequently characterized in neuroimaging with graph theoretical metrics.

The availability of vaccines against the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), provides hope towards mitigation of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Vaccine safety and efficacy has not been established in individuals with chronic autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS). Anecdotal reports suggest that the vaccines may be associated with brain, spinal cord, peripheral nervous system, and cardiac inflammation.

Article Synopsis
  • The hypothalamus is crucial for controlling various instinctive behaviors and autonomic responses, but the exact anatomical pathways for these functions are not fully understood.
  • Previous studies indicate a strong connection between the cerebral cortex and the hypothalamus, particularly between the prefrontal cortex and hypothalamic nuclei, but information about posterior connections remains limited.
  • Using advanced imaging techniques, this study successfully identified and reconstructed the parieto-occipito-hypothalamic tract in healthy human subjects, enhancing our understanding of its role in the limbic system.

The cerebellum is shown to be involved in some limbic functions of the human brain such as emotion and affect. The major connection of the cerebellum with the limbic system is known to be through the cerebello-hypothalamic pathways. The consensus is that the projections from the cerebellar nuclei to the limbic system, and particularly the hypothalamus, or from the hypothalamus to the cerebellar nuclei, are through multisynaptic pathways in the bulbar reticular formation.

Background And Objective: Cognitive impairment (CI) is common in multiple sclerosis (MS), but underlying mechanisms and their imaging correlates are not completely understood. The gray and white matter structures of the limbic system (LS) play crucial roles in different aspects of cognition. To investigate their role in MS related CI, and since a detailed evaluations are lacking in the literature, we used a comprehensive neuroimaging approach to evaluate CI's correlations with the main components of the LS.

Background Aims: Amniotic membrane (AM), the innermost layer of human placenta, is composed of a single layer of epithelial cells, a basement membrane and an avascular stroma. The AM has many functions and properties, among which angiogenic modulatory and immunoregulatory effects are applicable in cancer therapy. Because these functions belong to amniotic epithelial cells, in this study we compared the anti-cancer effect of amniotic epithelial cells and the whole AM.
