Background: Shoulder arthroscopy, a standard orthopedic procedure, often results in severe postoperative pain, leading to high opioid consumption and delayed recovery. Various analgesic methods, including peripheral nerve blocks, manage this pain. The pericapsular nerve group block is a relatively new technique whose efficacy in shoulder surgeries has yet to be extensively studied.

Background: Total hip arthroplasty, commonly performed to alleviate hip pain and enhance functionality in elderly patients, requires effective postoperative pain management to reduce opioid consumption and its associated side effects. A novel regional anaesthesia technique, the sacral erector spinae plane block, has the potential to enhance the quality of postoperative recovery significantly.

Methods: This prospective, randomized, controlled multicenter study investigated the effects of the sacral erector spinae plane block on recovery quality in patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty.

Background: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a common surgical procedure that frequently results in substantial postoperative pain. Erector spinae plane block (ESPB) has been shown to have beneficial postoperative analgesic effects when used as a part of multimodal analgesia. The aim of this study was to determine whether ESPB improves postoperative recovery quality in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Background: The purpose of this study is to assess the readability, understandability, and quality of information on retinopathy of prematurity presented at websites frequently visited by parents.

Methods: A total of 220 websites were assessed, which were recruited by searching for "retinopathy of prematurity" at the Google search engine. The readability of each web page was assessed by Flesch Reading Ease Score, Gobbledygook's Gunning Frequency, Flesch Kincaid Grade Level, Coleman Liau score, The Simple Measure of Gobbledygook, Fry Graph Readability Formula, and Automated readability score.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers assessed YouTube videos on donning and doffing PPE, categorizing 300 videos into educationally useful and non-useful based on a valid assessment tool; only 66 videos met the inclusion criteria for usefulness.
  • * Findings indicate that videos created by healthcare agencies and hospitals were generally more educationally useful than those made by individuals, and the overall usefulness of videos correlated with their view counts, suggesting YouTube could be a valuable learning tool if the right videos are selected.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined how exposure to volatile anesthetic gases affects thiol/disulphide balance, which is linked to oxidative stress, in operating theater personnel compared to unexposed medical professionals.
  • It involved 65 exposed subjects and 55 controls, using a novel method to measure thiol levels and included psychological assessments to account for potential confounding factors like anxiety and depression.
  • The results showed lower native thiol levels and higher disulphide levels in exposed workers, indicating disrupted homeostasis due to oxidative stress from anesthetic gas exposure, even after accounting for psychological factors.
