Background: Laparoscopic hernia repair has been gaining acceptance as an alternative to open repair. The aim of this study was to present the experience of a general surgery ward with laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective search of all laparoscopic inguinal hernia repairs between January 1999 and December 2003 was obtained.
Intussusception (IS), an invagination of a portion of the intestine into itself, has recently attracted considerable interest after the withdrawal of a rotavirus vaccine because of reports on increased risk of IS shortly after vaccination. The present study was designed to shed further light on the mechanism of IS formation and its prevention. Intussusception was induced in adult mice by intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS; 8 mg/kg) from salmonella typhimurium.
