Efficacy of Different Combinations of Direct-Acting Antivirals Against Different Hepatitis C Virus-Infected Population Groups: An Experience in Tertiary Care Hospitals in West Bengal, India.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a global public health problem, but advancements in HCV treatment have improved the cure rate. This study evaluated the effectiveness of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) in HCV-infected patients from May 2021 to April 2023 in collaboration with tertiary care hospitals in West Bengal. The HCV viral load was monitored via qRT-PCR.

Clinical Profile and Prognostic Markers of Acute on Chronic Liver Failure (ACLF): A Single-center Experience from East India.

Aim: The aim of the study was to study the clinical profile of acute on chronic liver failure (ACLF) and establish Cell-free DNA (Cf DNA) as a predictor of the outcome of ACLF.

Methods: In this prospective study, those patients who fulfilled EASL criteria were included. Cf DNA was estimated in 30 patients and compared with the CLIF-C ACLF score.

Cryptogenic cirrhosis and NASH: entities in evolution and involution.

Cryptogenic cirrhosis is a clinical entity which has the potential for better diagnosis of actual underlying maladies with future advancements in medicine. Current understanding of CC is rapidly undergoing transformation (Figures 1 & 2). In the light of available evidence of frequent disappearance of fat in NASH-associated cirrhosis, CC explants showing steatosis, allografts demonstrating the full blown recurrence of NASH in CC, and the association of CC with diabetes and obesity, suggests CC to be more proximately linked with NAS than believed until now (Figure 2).

Hemosuccus pancreaticus associated with severe acute pancreatitis and pseudoaneurysms: a report of two cases.

Context: Hemosuccus pancreaticus is a rare cause of upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage. The intensity of bleeding ranges from intermittent occult bleeding to massive acute bleeding leading to death. Although most cases can be managed by angioembolization, surgery plays an important role.

Diffuse splenic infarction in a case of severe acute pancreatitis.

Splenic infarction is rare in inflammatory diseases of the pancreas, although the spleen and its vessels have an intimate relation with the pancreas. Most reported cases are of focal infarction, and treatment is mostly conservative. The authors report a case of diffuse splenic infarction in a 17-year-old boy with severe acute pancreatitis who presented with massive upper gastrointestinal bleeding and was treated with splenectomy.
