Background: Despite its demonstrated efficacy in prolonging overall survival (OS) and delaying skeletal-related events in the ALSYMPCA trial, the optimal timing of radium-223 initiation remains unclear. This study investigated factors influencing radium-223 treatment outcomes, including completion rates and survival.

Methods: This retrospective, multi-institutional study included 164 patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) who received radium-223 therapy.

Clinical outcomes and treatment patterns of maintenance avelumab in locally advanced or metastatic urothelial carcinoma: a multicenter collaborative study.

Background: The JAVELIN Bladder 100 trial demonstrated improved overall survival (OS) with maintenance avelumab in patients with locally advanced or metastatic urothelial carcinoma UC (la/mUC) who achieved disease control following first-line platinum-based chemotherapy (1 L-PBC). However, real-world data on eligibility, utilization, and outcomes of maintenance avelumab therapy remain limited.

Methods: This retrospective study included patients with la/mUC who received 1 L-PBC.

Predicting pathological upstaging after radical nephroureterectomy in patients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma: results from a multicenter cohort study.

Background: Despite the availability of advanced imaging technologies, it remains difficult to achieve sufficient staging accuracy to ensure a tailored treatment strategy for patients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). The aim of the study was to identify preoperative risk factors for tumor upstaging in patients with UTUC initially staged as clinical T2 or lower and to analyze these factors separately for renal pelvic cancer and ureteral cancer.

Methods: This retrospective study included data from patients with UTUC who underwent nephroureterectomy.

Optimal timing for initiating androgen receptor signaling inhibitor therapy in patients with nonmetastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer: a multicenter collaborative study.

Objective: We determined the optimal timing for initiating androgen receptor signaling inhibitor (ARSI) therapy in patients with nonmetastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC) and assessed its impact on oncological outcomes.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study included 145 nmCRPC patients who received enzalutamide, apalutamide or darolutamide at the Jikei University Hospital or its affiliated institutions between May 2014 and November 2022. Patients were stratified based on prostate-specific antigen (PSA) doubling time (PSADT) at CRPC diagnosis and PSA levels at ARSI initiation.

Associations between early changes in the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio after radical nephroureterectomy and treatment outcomes.

Objectives: This study explored the impacts of peri-operative changes in the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) on the survival rate after radical nephroureterectomy.

Methods: This retrospective analysis included a multicentric cohort of patients diagnosed with upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) who had undergone radical nephroureterectomy from 2012 to 2021. We assessed the preoperative NLR, postoperative NLR, delta-NLR (difference between postoperative and preoperative NLRs), and NLR change (ratio of postoperative to preoperative NLR).

Does castration status affect docetaxel-related adverse events? :Identification of risk factors for docetaxel-related adverse events in metastatic prostate cancer.

Background: Docetaxel-related adverse events (AEs) such as neutropenia and febrile neutropenia (FN) can be life-threatening. A previous in vivo study raised the hypothesis that the castration status affects the rate of hematologic AEs. We aimed to investigate the impact of castration status on the incidence of docetaxel-related AE in metastatic prostate cancer (mPCa) patients.

Combination of docetaxel versus nonsteroidal antiandrogen with androgen deprivation therapy for high-volume metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer: a propensity score-matched analysis.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the oncologic efficacy of combining docetaxel with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) versus nonsteroidal antiandrogen (NSAA) with ADT in patients with high-volume metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC) with focus on the effect of sequential therapy in a real-world clinical practice setting.

Methods: The records of 382 patients who harbored high-volume mHSPC, based on the CHAARTED criteria, and had received ADT with either docetaxel (n = 92) or NSAA (bicalutamide) (n = 290) were retrospectively analyzed. The cohorts were matched by one-to-one propensity scores based on patient demographics.

Salvage surgery for residual disease following unsuccessful laparoscopic radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer.

Salvage radical prostatectomy (SRP) has been one of the common procedures for the patients with a failure after primary treatment. We present a case of SRP with rare surgical history. To our knowledge, this is the first report of salvage surgery for residual prostate gland including prostate cancer after unsuccessful radical prostatectomy.

Outcomes of laparoscopic resection of urachal remnants followed by novel umbilicoplasty.

Objective: The purpose of the study was to report the outcomes of our modified techniques of laparoscopic urachal resection, followed by novel umbilical-plasty using dermal regenerative grafts for symptomatic urachal remnants.

Methods: Between March 2014 and December 2016, laparoscopic urachal resection was carried out on 45 patients with complaints of urachal remnants. After extraction of the specimen and closure of the fascia at the umbilical site, a 1-cm square section of dermal regeneration sheet (TERUDERMIS®, Olympus) was suture retained between the fascia and the skin.

Effect of everolimus treatment for renal angiomyolipoma associated with tuberous sclerosis complex: an evaluation based on tumor density.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of components of angiomyolipoma (AML) on the efficacy of everolimus.

Methods: We investigated a total of 40 patients with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) who had AML ≥4 cm in diameter. The components of the AML were determined using abdominal computed tomography (CT) images.
