Aberrant anatomical variation of the vertebral artery (VA) from an internal carotid artery (ICA) is considered a rare finding. The incidence of this phenomenon can lead to patients suffering from posterior circulation neurological deficit if the ICA becomes significantly diseased. VA atypical anatomical origin is considered one of the rare pathologies, not only precipitating neurovascular incidents but equally leading to severe difficulty in VA dissection and surgical exposure, especially in carotid artery procedures.

Objective: Recently, angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) gene has emerged as a potential candidate gene for susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 infection. We investigated whether ACE2 G8790A (rs2285666) polymorphism could be a genetic marker for susceptibility to COVID-19 and disease severity in Egyptian children and adolescents.

Methods: This was a prospective case-control study included 580 cases diagnosed with COVID-19, and 580 matched control children and adolescents.

Background: Following tumor resection, imaging recommendation for the follow-up of patients with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (IHCCA) include frequent chest, abdomen and pelvis computed tomography (CT) imaging. The appropriateness of additional imaging studies is usually derived from their clinical utility. The purpose of this work is to determine the value of chest CT imaging in the follow-up of patients with IHCCA.

In this work, microalgae-based zinc oxide nanoparticles loaded with electrospun polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/sodium alginate (SA) nanofibers were fabricated by electro-spinner. PVA/SA fibrous mats were crosslinked by citric acid, which enhanced their thermal stability and swelling behavior. Green-synthesized ZnO NPs were laboratory synthesized and characterized by FTIR, XRD, EDX, SEM, TEM and TGA analyses.

Objectives: The global prevalence of Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) and differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC), particularly papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), is increasing. However, studies assessing correlations between these diseases have yielded inconsistent findings. Furthermore, patients diagnosed with HT show a higher prevalence of indeterminate cytology than those without HT.

Purpose: To create a computer-aided prediction (CAP) system to predict Wilms tumor (WT) responsiveness to preoperative chemotherapy (PC) using pre-therapy contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT).

Materials And Methods: A single-center database was reviewed for children <18 years diagnosed with WT and received PC between 2001 and 2021. Patients were excluded if pre- and post-PC CECT were not retrievable.

The double-lumen endotracheal tube (DLT) was introduced by Carlens in 1949 and became widely used for single-lung ventilation. DLTs have since become standard for most pulmonary resections. Although the use of DLTs is routine and safe in experienced hands, it is not without risk.

Plastic bronchitis is a rare disease with serious morbidity. We report a case of a 48-year-old male smoker with a past medical history of diabetes, emphysema, recurrent respiratory infections, a worsening productive cough, and increased oxygen requirement over the past 3 months. Often described in the pediatric population, it is important to maintain plastic bronchitis in the differential when considering unresolving pulmonary conditions with chronic sputum production.

Being a central organ in homeostasis and maintaining the health of the biological system, kidneys are exposed to variable toxicants. Long-term exposure to nephrotoxic molecules causes chronic renal damage that causes fibrosis and loss of function. Such damage can be initiated by oxidative stress which provokes inflammation.

Azithromycin (AM) is one of the prescribed drugs in pandemic medication treatment which has paid great attention. We developed in this study a simply modified carbon paste electrode (CPE) to detect AM using poly-threonine (PT). PT or similar polymers are used as carriers to enhance the delivery and effectiveness of AM.

Aims: Which is the best extensile lateral (ELA) or sinus tarsi (STA) approach for osteosynthesis displaced intraarticular calcaneal fracture (DIACF) is still debatable. The current RCT's primary objective was to compare the complications incidence after open reduction and internal fixation of DIACFs through STA vs. ELA.

Background: Studies on renal vein thrombosis have been conducted as case reports or case series. The renal outcomes and mortality risk of renal vein thrombosis have not been fully established. We aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics, treatment modalities, and predictors of renal outcomes and mortality in patients with renal vein thrombosis in a large multicenter cohort.

Purpose: This retrospective study aimed to assess ossification patterns and synchondrosis fusion timelines of the C1 and C2 vertebrae in pediatric age group, to help differentiate injuries from normal variations and serve as a guide when evaluating incompletely fused synchondrosis.

Materials And Methods: The study analyzed 432 CT examinations of children aged 0-72 months, conducted at a single institution between January 2010 and January 2018. The focus was assessment of the visibility and fusion of the three ossification centers and three synchondroses of the atlas, and six ossification centers and four synchondroses of the axis, based on age.

This study presents the synthesis of a green polymer-based nanocomposite by incorporating green CuO nanoparticles into polyaniline (PANI) for the adsorption of Pb (II) ions from contaminated water. The nanocomposite was extensively characterized using FTIR, XRD, BET, SEM-EDX, XPS, and Raman spectroscopy, both before and after Pb(II) adsorption. Optimization studies were performed to assess the effects of key parameters, including pH, adsorbent dosage, and initial ion concentration on the adsorption process.

Aim: Whether case-based modified essay questions (MEQs) are crucial to summative assessment in medical curriculum is still debatable. The current study aimed to evaluate third-year medical students' performance in case-based MEQs and multiple-choice questions (MCQs) in summative assessment in the endocrine module.

Methods: Students' scores in mid and final module MEQs and MCQs were analyzed over four successive years from 2018/2019 to 2021/2022, where comparisons were made between students' scores in MEQs and MCQs, and between scores of students of different categories.

Given the dearth of literature on attachment theory in the Arab world, this study explores the cross-cultural validity of attachment theory within an Egyptian sample of 60 mother-child dyads through the Strange Situation Procedure (SSP). The study examines the applicability of attachment theory's universality, normativity, and secure base hypotheses, as well as the prevalence and manifestations of insecurity in an Egyptian sample. The findings supported attachment theory's universality, normativity and secure base hypotheses, while simultaneously pointing towards cultural variations in attachment manifestations.

Pharmaceutical residues, now recognized as a new category of environmental pollutants, have potentially risks to both ecosystems and human health effects. Recently, biosorption has emerged as one of the most promising strategies for managing these pharmaceutical wastes in water. Nevertheless, the environmental impact of the adsorbents presents a challenge to the advancement of this process.
