Article Synopsis
  • The meta-analysis examines how sex affects mortality risk in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) who lack standard modifiable risk factors (referred to as SMuRF-less) compared to those who have at least one risk factor (SMuRF).
  • It analyzed data from eight studies, revealing that women in the SMuRF-less group had higher in-hospital mortality rates than men, while men showed no significant increase in mortality.
  • The findings indicate that women without cardiovascular risk factors face greater short- and medium-term mortality risks after an ACS event compared to their male counterparts.

Corrosion significantly threatens the structural integrity of steel-based constructions like buildings and industrial units. Traditional corrosion inhibitors, such as chromates, are associated with environmental and health risks. This has led to a growing interest in environmentally sustainable alternatives, with plant extracts emerging as promising candidates.

Introduction The basic principle of a sensory adaptive dental environment is that an individual's sensory experiences have a significant impact on their emotional and psychological well-being. Taste, smell, touch, hearing, and sight are the five basic senses that affect our perception and responses to the environment. The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a Sensory-Adaptive Dental Environment (SADE) compared with a Regular Dental Environment (RDE) in reducing anxiety, improving behavior, and providing a smooth experience for children undergoing dental treatment.

Tooth movement in orthodontic therapy is connected to the frictional force that is created as the wire passes over the bracket. It is possible for teeth to move quickly when friction is at a minimum. Wires coated with nanoparticles have been found to reduce friction as a result of current developments in the orthodontics sector.

Uterine muscle contractility is essential for reproductive processes including sperm and embryo transport, and during the uterine cycle to remove menstrual effluent. Even still, uterine contractions have primarily been studied in the context of preterm labor. This is partly due to a lack of methods for studying the uterine muscle contractility in the intact organ.

Depression, a highly prevalent disorder affecting over 280 million people worldwide, is comorbid with many neurological disorders, particularly Alzheimer's disease (AD). Depression and AD share overlapping pathophysiology, and the search for accountable biological substrates made it an essential and intriguing field of research. The paper outlines the neurobiological pathways coinciding with depression and AD, including neurotrophin signalling, the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA), cellular apoptosis, neuroinflammation, and other aetiological factors.

The aim of the study was to determine the post surgical outcomes in pediatric adenotonsillar hypertrophy with OSA using portable polysomnography (PSG), OSA 18 Questionnaire and Quality of life (QoL) scores. Secondly to correlate the subjective outcomes with objective scores of polysomonography. A prospective, single-arm, nonrandomized, single center study was performed at a tertiary care centre on children aged 3-12 years (n = 30) with adenoid hypertrophy/ tonsillar hypertrophy/adenotonsillar hypertrophy and symptoms suggestive of OSA.

The present work employs the single-wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) and multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) models on axisymmetric Casson fluid flow over a permeable shrinking sheet in the presence of an inclined magnetic field and thermal radiation. By exploiting the similarity variable, the leading nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) are converted into dimensionless ordinary differential equations (ODEs). The derived equations are solved analytically, and a dual solution is obtained as a result of the shrinking sheet.

Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the impact of never-use list and standardized abbreviations on error prone abbreviations.

Background: Abbreviations are commonly used in medical records to save time and space but use in prescriptions, which can lead to communication failures and preventable harm. Prescriptions need to be clear for correct interpretation.

Context: The city of Chennai is one of the largest metropolitan cities in India where apart from a large traditional population, there has been a continuous migration from rural areas and growing sophistication in lifestyle. Twinning rates trend in the present world would be interesting to study.

Aims: The aim of the present study was to analyse the twinning rate in the city of Chennai, the distribution amongst various city zones and the present trends in the co-relation between the maternal age of the twins with the zygosity.

COVID-19 outbreaks have had high mortality in low- and middle-income countries such as Ecuador. Human mobility is an important factor influencing the spread of diseases possibly leading to a high burden of disease at the country level. Drastic control measures, such as complete lockdown, are effective epidemic controls, yet in practice one hopes that a partial shutdown would suffice.

The suitability of newly synthesized magnetic polyaniline-Chitosan nanocomposite decorated with silver nanoparticles (Ag@PANI-CS-FeO) as a robust corrosion inhibitor for Aluminum (Al) in a 5 M HCl environment has been investigated via Weight Loss (WL), Alternating Current (AC)-Impedance Spectroscopy (IS), Potentiontiodynamic polarization (Tafel plots), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) techniques. The protection efficiency (PE) was mathematically modeled using the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) to fit an empirical relation in terms of temperature, nanocomposite concentration, and time using the face-centered central composite design. The model was accurate with a coefficient of determination (R = 99.

Purpose: The negligence of oral health combined with barriers in accessing adequate oral care is more commonly encountered in children with sensory deficits. In a developing country like India, there is a severe lacuna in data regarding the oral health status and treatment needs in this group of population. The purpose of this study is to assess the oral health status and treatment needs of children with sensory deficits, using WHO criteria of Basic Oral Health Survey Methods, 1997.

Microorganisms live in the human digestive system and the gut microbiome constitutes part of our prime determining component for healthy aging and wellness. Gut microbiota has broad influences on its host, beginning from the digestion of food and nutrients absorption to protective roles against invading pathogens and host immune system regulation. Dysbiosis of the gut microbial composition has been linked to numerous diseases and there is a need to have a better grasp on what makes a 'good' gut microbiome.

Latin America has struggled to control the transmission of COVID-19. Comparison of excess death (ED) rates during the pandemic reveals that Ecuador is among the highest impacted countries. In this analysis, we update our previous findings with the most complete all-cause mortality records available for 2020, disaggregated by sex, age, ethnicity and geography.

Background: In early 2020, Ecuador reported one of the highest surges of per capita deaths across the globe.

Methods: We collected a comprehensive dataset containing individual death records between 2015 and 2020, from the Ecuadorian National Institute of Statistics and Census and the Ecuadorian Ministry of Government. We computed the number of excess deaths across time, geographical locations and demographic groups using Poisson regression methods.
