Women with sickle cell anemia (SCA) have higher rates of diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) than age-matched controls. Pecker et al report a small study of patients with SCA that compares ovarian reserve in patients after stem cell transplant, on therapy with hydroxyurea (HU), and on supportive care. As expected, patients who received transplants have severe DOR.

Article Synopsis
  • The study was conducted to evaluate how well plain milk, 5ppm fluoridated milk, and 5ppm NaF in deionized water can help remineralize root caries in teeth, especially in older adults.
  • It involved testing 60 root samples, which were grouped and treated for 14 days after they were demineralized, followed by measuring the hardness of the samples.
  • Results showed significant differences in the remineralization effects, with 5ppm fluoridated milk and 5ppm fluoridated deionized water being more effective than plain milk in restoring demineralized root caries.

Background & Objectives: Periodontal disease is characterized by the presence of gingival inflammation, periodontal pocket formation, loss of connective tissue attachment and alveolar bone around the affected tooth. Different modalities have been employed in the treatment and regeneration of periodontal defects which include the use of bone grafts, PRP and other growth factors. The purpose of this prospective, randomized controlled study was to compare the regenerative efficacy of PRP and bonegraft in intrabony periodontal defects.

Groundwater samples are collected from 30 observation wells in the study area to analyze the hydrochemical quality for determining the seawater encroachment in the part of Central Godavari Delta, Bay of Bengal, India. In order to establish the baseline hydrochemical conditions and processes determining the groundwater quality, an integrated investigation coupled with multivariate statistical analysis and hydrochemical methods are used to identify and interpret the groundwater chemistry of the aquifer system. The major land use is irrigated agriculture and aquaculture in the study area.

Coastal lands around Bay of Bengal in Central Godavari Delta are mainly agriculture fields and two times annually paddy crops putting in the study area. Canals of Godavari River are the main source of water for irrigation. Geophysical and geochemical investigations were carried out in the study area to decipher subsurface geologic formation and assessing seawater intrusion.

Traumatic brain injury can lead to locally destructive secondary events mediated by several inflammatory components. Following lateral fluid-percussion (FP) brain injury in rats, we examined cortical and hippocampal sections for neutrophil infiltration and accumulation of complement component C3. Neutrophil influx into the brain after injury was detected by an improved myeloperoxidase (MPO) microassay and manual cell counting, while C3 accumulation was detected using immunocytochemistry.

Using a zymosan-induced mouse model of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), it has been shown that the absence of MIP-1alpha increased mortality fourfold, whereas the absence of C5 decreased mortality fourfold. The purpose of the present study was to determine the early events following zymosan injection in MIP-1alpha knockout and C5-deficient mice. B10.
