Background:  Headaches affect people's social, intellectual, and personal lives and are quite common worldwide, especially among young adults. Primary headaches that cause significant impairment, such as tension-type headaches (TTH) and migraines, frequently start in adolescence and early adulthood. Research on the incidence and consequences of headache problems among young people in India is scarce, especially when it comes to a variety of academic fields.

Article Synopsis
  • The study found that 34.6% of adults aged 40 and older in rural South India have knee osteoarthritis (OA), highlighting a significant public health issue.
  • Significant risk factors for developing OA included diabetes, obesity, and hypertension, particularly in women.
  • The study also revealed that OA patients experience high levels of pain during activities like standing up from a chair and climbing stairs, with an average WOMAC score indicating considerable functional impairment.

  • Transplantation is a radical therapy that involves removing the liver and its associated structures, then replacing them with a donor liver (allograft).
  • Recent studies show liver transplantation is possible for patients with unresectable colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) and can lead to acceptable outcomes in carefully selected individuals.
  • There are ethical concerns about this approach, such as the risk of disease recurrence in patients who are immunosuppressed and the limited availability of donor livers, which may affect access for those with other liver conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the relationship between donor time to death (TTD) and outcomes in liver transplantation from donors after circulatory death (DCD), analyzing data from the UK Transplant Registry for recipients between 2006 and 2021.
  • - Results indicated that a TTD of 14 minutes or less significantly increased the risk of graft loss, while longer TTD did not affect outcomes; additionally, prolonged surgery time was associated with graft loss but not the duration of functional warm ischemia.
  • - The findings suggest that allowing longer stand down periods before organ procurement may enhance the use of donor livers without compromising transplant success rates.

The time to arrest donors after circulatory death is unpredictable and can vary. This leads to variable periods of warm ischemic damage prior to pancreas transplantation. There is little evidence supporting procurement team stand-down times based on donor time to death (TTD).

Background: Liver transplantation is the only chance of cure for people with end-stage liver disease and some people with advanced liver cancers or acute liver failure. The increasing prevalence of these conditions drives demand and necessitates the increasing use of donated livers which have traditionally been considered suboptimal. Several novel machine perfusion preservation technologies have been developed, which attempt to ameliorate some of the deleterious effects of ischaemia reperfusion injury.

Introduction: Subtotal cholecystectomy (STC) is an alternative to total cholecystectomy (TC) in patients with severe inflammation/adhesions around the hepatocystic triangle. This study aimed to evaluate the safety profile of STC.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all patients who had STC at our unit between February 2009 and August 2019.

Purpose: The surgical treatment of advanced low rectal cancer remains controversial. Extended lymphadenectomy (EL) is the preferred option in the East, especially in Japan, while neoadjuvant radiotherapy is the treatment of choice in the West. This review was undertaken to review available evidence supporting each of the therapies.

Introduction: Osteonecrosis or Avascular necrosis of bone (AVN) is a well recognized complication of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) leading to significant morbidity.

Methods: We did a cross sectional descriptive study in cohort of SLE patients, on regular follow-up at our Rheumatology OPD over a period of 5 years from 2012 to 2017.

Results: Of the total 415 SLE, 5.

Background: The European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES) strives to be a leader in promoting the development and expansion of minimally invasive surgery (MIS). Part of the association's mission statement is "to become an information hub for all practitioners of MIS". It is therefore important that the education segment of the association continues to be actively monitored and updated to ensure this mission statement is met.

Background: The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of an endoluminal vacuum device (Endo-SPONGE) in the treatment of rectal anastomotic leaks.

Methods: All studies looking at endoluminal vacuum therapy with Endo-SPONGE in the treatment of rectal anastomotic leaks were included. A comprehensive search was conducted as per Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines.

Background: The steep learning curve for safe introduction of transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME) highlights the need for mentored training reserved for surgeons with expertise in minimally invasive colorectal surgery and transanal surgery. Video-based education in minimally invasive surgery is considered by surgical trainers as a useful teaching aid to maximize learning. This study aims to systematically assess the availability and quality of online TaTME videos.

Duplication cysts are an uncommon finding. Majority of these cases are found in the region of the midgut, and many have been reported in literature. However, there has been only one previous case of a midgut duplication cyst lined by respiratory epithelium.

Mesoporous iron oxide, particularly amine-functionalized FeO(x) and FeO(x), was investigated for the removal of toxic heavy metal anions of arsenic and chromium from an aqueous solution. As a control experiment for these toxic compounds, adsorption tests were also performed on Fe3O4 as their counterpart bulk chemical. The mesostructures were confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

The effectiveness and short-term safety of recombinant human GH (r-hGH) in acromegaly patients with GH deficiency (GHD) after treatment are not well established. The study includes ten subjects with acromegaly who had GHD treated with r-hGH for 6 months. Control groups consisted of ten age-, gender-, and BMI-matched healthy subjects and ten active acromegaly patients who were treatment naïve.

Hydrodynamic forces generated by an orifice plate under low pressure were examined as a means of disrupting flocs, in order to improve disinfection of treated wastewater effluents. Changes in cavitation conditions were found to have little impact on the extent of particle breakage in this experimental setup. The rate of strain (flow rate divided by the hole radius cubed), however, was found to be the best predictor of floc breakage.

Integrated fixed-film activated sludge systems (IFFAS) may achieve year-round nitrification or gain additional treatment capacity due to the presence of both flocs and biofilms, and the potential for multiple redox states and long solids retention time. Flocs and biofilms are distinctive microbial structures and characterization of the physicochemical and structural properties of these may provide insight into their respective roles in wastewater treatment and contaminant removal in IFFAS. Flocs and biofilms were examined from five different pilot media systems being evaluated for potential full scale implementation at a large municipal wastewater treatment plant.

The chromium (Cr(III) and Cr(VI)) removal capability of Rhizobium leguminosarum was checked by estimating the amount of chromium in the medium before and after inoculation. To determine the efficiency of R. leguminosarum in removal of chromium, the influence of physical and chemical parameters such as temperature, pH and different concentrations (0.
