Background: Comprehensive infection prevention and control (IPC) programmes are proven to reduce the spread of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). However, published assessments of IPC programmes against the World Health Organization (WHO) IPC Core Components in Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs) at the national and acute healthcare facility level are currently unavailable.

Methods: From January 2022 to April 2023, a multi-country, cross-sectional study was conducted in PICTs.

Introduction: Leprosy reactions (LRs) are inflammatory responses observed in 30%-50% of people with leprosy. First-line treatment is glucocorticoids (GCs), often administered at high doses with prolonged courses, resulting in high morbi-mortality. Methotrexate (MTX) is an immunomodulating agent used to treat inflammatory diseases and has an excellent safety profile and worldwide availability.

Malaria control efforts have been hampered due to the emergence of resistant malaria parasite strains and the coinciding events of Covid-19. The quest for more effective and safe treatment alternatives is driving a slew of new studies that must be accelerated if malaria can be overcome. Due to its reported antimalarial activity, we studied the effects of extract and fractions of leaf on Plasmodium lactate dehydrogenase (pLDH) activity using an in vitro assay.

Purpose: Heterozygous missense mutations leading to a gain of function (GOF) are the most frequent genetic cause of chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis (CMC). We describe the case of a patient presenting a new GOF mutation of with the clinical symptoms of CMC, recurrent pneumonia, and persistent central erythema with papulopustules with ocular involvement related to rosacea-like demodicosis.

Methods: Genetic analysis targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS; NGS panel DIPAI v.

In the field of therapeutic antibody production, diversification of fed-batch strategies is flourishing in response to the market demand. All manufacturing approaches tend to follow the generally accepted dogma of increasing titer since it directly increases manufacturing output. While titer is influenced by the biomass (expressed as IVCD), the culture time and the cell-specific productivity (q), we changed independently each of these parameters to tune our process strategy towards adapted solutions to individual manufacturing needs.

Article Synopsis
  • During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, various skin conditions were identified by doctors, often linked to the virus.
  • A specific case is presented of a patient who experienced a recurrence of herpes zoster (shingles) while hospitalized for COVID-19.
  • This case is notable as it is the first documented instance of herpes zoster reappearing during a SARS-CoV-2 infection, confirmed by testing the rash.

Background: Bullous haemorrhagic dermatitis (BHD) is an uncommon and highly particular side effect of various forms of heparins.

Methods: To better characterise the disease, we collected all cases from French Pharmacovigilance centres recorded over a 20-year period (37 cases) and performed a Medline literature search up to June 2020 (57 cases).

Results: In all, 94 patients were identified (male/female ratio: 2.

The presence of nurses within occupational health care teams is now mandatory. Their role, centred on prevention, health protection and employees' safety, is practised under the authority and in close collaboration with the occupational health doctor, within a multidisciplinary team. Over recent years, their scope of practice has been expanded to include the individual monitoring of employees' health.

Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) is the etiological agent of all forms of Kaposi's sarcoma (KS). K1 gene studies have identified five major molecular genotypes with geographical clustering. This study described the epidemiology of HHV-8 and its molecular diversity in Gabon among Bantu and Pygmy adult rural populations and KS patients.

Background: Ceftriaxone and cefotaxime share a similar antibacterial spectrum and similar indications but have different pharmacokinetic characteristics. Ceftriaxone is administered once daily and 40% of its clearance is by biliary elimination, whereas cefotaxime requires three administrations per day and shows less than 10% biliary elimination. The high biliary elimination of ceftriaxone suggests a greater impact of this antibiotic on the gut microbiota than cefotaxime.

Among candidate drugs to treat coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the combination of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) and azithromycin (AZ) has received intense worldwide attention. Even as the efficacy of this combination is under evaluation, clinicians have begun to use it largely. As these medications are known to prolong the QT interval, we analyzed serial electrocardiograms recorded in patients hospitalized for COVID-19 pneumonia and treated with HCQ + AZ.

A total diet study (TDS) was conducted between 2010 and 2016 to characterize the health risk related to chemical residues in food of French not breastfed children under three years of age (infant TDS). Among the targeted substances, polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) have been characterized as they accumulate through the food chain, especially in lipid-rich food items, and because they have been associated with a number of adverse effects in humans. Food samples (n = 180) were collected to be representative of the dioxins and PCB exposure through the whole diet of non-breastfed children from 1 to 36 months old and prepared as consumed (including cooking) prior to analysis.

Introduction: Capnocytophagacanimorsus (C. canimorsus), a commensal Gram-negative bacillus found in the oral cavity of dogs and cats, is pathogenic for humans, with the most common clinical manifestations being septicemia, meningitis and endocarditis. Herein we report a case of CC bacteremia manifesting as multiple plaques of erythema annulare centrifugum associated with monoarthritis of the knee.

Background: Scabies is a common parasitic skin condition that causes considerable morbidity globally. Clinical and epidemiological research for scabies has been limited by a lack of standardization of diagnostic methods.

Objectives: To develop consensus criteria for the diagnosis of common scabies that could be implemented in a variety of settings.
