Proposal for a mechanical model of mobile shales.

Structural systems involving mobile shale represent one of the most difficult challenges for geoscientists dedicated to exploring the subsurface structure of continental margins. Mobile-shale structures range from surficial mud volcanoes to deeply buried shale diapirs and shale-cored folds. Where mobile shales occur, seismic imaging is typically poor, drilling is hazardous, and established principles to guide interpretation are few.

Medicinal Plants in the Prevention and Treatment of Colon Cancer.

The standard treatment for cancer is generally based on using cytotoxic drugs, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and surgery. However, the use of traditional treatments has received attention in recent years. The aim of the present work was to provide an overview of medicinal plants effective on colon cancer with special emphasis on bioactive components and underlying mechanisms of action.

Effects of follicular fluid of preovulatory follicles of repeat breeder dairy cows with subclinical endometritis on oocyte developmental competence.

The aims of the present study were to determine the concentrations of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), hormonal progesterone, estradiol-17β, insulin growth factor (IGF-1) and magnesium in the serum and the preovulatory follicle follicular fluid (FF) in repeat breeder (RB) cows without (nSCE) or with subclinical endometritis (SCE), and further to examine the effects of this FF on developmental competence of cattle oocytes. In Experiment 1, 13 of 23 clinically healthy Holstein RB cows were identified (uterine PMNs) to have SCE. The cows were estrous synchronized, and 6-12 h after detection of standing estrus, FF and blood of the preovulatory follicles were collected.

Molecular characterization of a new microvariant of the G3 genotype for Echinococcus granulosus in water buffalo in Iran.

In this study, molecular characterization of Echinococcus granulosus sample obtained from water buffalo originating from southwest of Iran was performed using comparative sequence analysis of cox1 mitochondrial gene. DNA was extracted from protoscoleces removed from hydatid cyst from the liver of a 2-year-old male buffalo slaughtered in Khuzestan province. Molecular and phylogenetic analyses were conducted based on cox1 mitochondrial gene.

Serum concentrations of haptoglobin and serum amyloid A in water buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) with abomasal ulcer.

To evaluate the serum concentrations of haptoglobin (Hp) and serum amyloid A (SAA) in water buffaloes with abomasal ulcers, the abomasums of 100 randomly selected water buffaloes were examined after slaughter. Type I abomasal ulcers were found in 56 out of 100 buffaloes. Serum concentrations of Hp and SAA were measured.
