A variety of organocatalysts has been screened for the synthesis of arylaminonaphthols. It has been shown that (N,N-dimethylethanolamine) is a highly efficient organocatalyst for the direct synthesis of a novel class of arylaminonaphthols via three-component condensation of 2-naphthol, aldehydes, and arylamines under solvent-free conditions. Mild, one-pot, and green reaction conditions, relatively short reaction times and good yields make this protocol highly significant.
