Ocular trauma often involves intraocular foreign bodies (IOFBs) that pose challenges in accurate diagnosis due to their size, shape, and material composition. In this study, we proposed a novel whole-eye 3D ophthalmic ultrasound B-scan (3D-UBS) system for automating image acquisition and improved 3D visualization, thereby improving sensitivity for detecting IOFBs. 3D-UBS utilizes 14 MHz Clarius L20 probe, a motorized translation stage, and a surgical microscope for precise placement and movement.

Although it is not known if anaerobic resistance training and high-intensity interval training, which involve alternating brief bouts of highly intense anaerobic activity with rest periods, have comparable effects on AHN. Also, while less thoroughly investigated, individual genetic diversity in the overall response to physical activity is likely to play a key role in the effects of exercise on AHN.

Using simply prepared samples, we demonstrate here "digital labeling," a method to segment blood vessels in 3D volumes solely based on the autofluorescence signal and a nuclei stain (DAPI). We trained a deep-learning neural network based on the U-net architecture using a regression loss instead of a commonly used segmentation loss to achieve better detection of small vessels.

Methods: Each 3D-UBM eye volume was aligned to the optic axis via multiplanar reformatting. Ciliary muscle and processes were manually annotated, and Deeplab-v3+ models with different loss functions were trained to segment the ciliary body (ciliary muscle and processes) in both en face and radial images.
Advances in three-dimensional microscopy and tissue clearing are enabling whole-organ imaging with single-cell resolution. Fast and reliable image processing tools are needed to analyze the resulting image volumes, including automated cell detection, cell counting and cell analytics. Deep learning approaches have shown promising results in two- and three-dimensional nuclei detection tasks, however detecting overlapping or non-spherical nuclei of different sizes and shapes in the presence of a blurring point spread function remains challenging and often leads to incorrect nuclei merging and splitting.

Compression elastography allows the precise measurement of large deformations of soft tissue in vivo. From an image sequence showing tissue undergoing large deformation, an inverse problem for both the linear and nonlinear elastic moduli distributions can be solved. As part of a larger clinical study to evaluate nonlinear elastic modulus maps (NEMs) in breast cancer, we evaluate the repeatability of linear and nonlinear modulus maps from repeat measurements.

Quantification of microvessel morphological features could play an important role in disease diagnosis and tumor classification. However, analyzing microvessel morphology in ultrasound Doppler is a challenging task due to limitations associated with this technique.

The paper presents the design and validation of body-conformal active ultrasound patches with integrated imaging and modulation modalities for image-guided neural therapy. A mechanically-flexible linear 64-element array of piezoelectric transducers with a resonance frequency of 5 MHz was designed for nerve localization. A second 8-element array using larger elements was integrated on the wearable probe for low intensity focused ultrasound neuromodulation at a resonance frequency of 1.

In this paper we propose a new non-invasive ultrasound method, pulsed vibro-acoustic, for evaluating osteoporotic and osteopenic bone in humans. Vibro-acoustic method uses acoustic radiation force (ARF) to stimulate bone and the resulting acoustic signal can be used to characterize bone. The resulting acoustic signal is collected by a hydrophone at the skin surface.

These differences can introduce a unique viscoelastic biomarker in differentiation of benign and malignant tumors. This biomarker may reduce the number of unnecessary biopsies in breast patients.

We propose a new type of quantitative vibro-acoustic method based on the acoustic radiation force of ultrasound for bone characterization in persons with fracture.

The method is based on acoustoelasticity modeling of the elasticity changes in bladder tissue modulus at different volumetric strain levels. At each volume, tissue strain is obtained from the real-time ultrasound images.

Elastography techniques assume that soft tissue can be modelled as a purely elastic medium. However, this assumption is often violated as soft tissue exhibits viscoelastic properties.

Objective: Recent advances in ultrasound Doppler imaging have made it possible to visualize small vessels with diameters near the imaging resolution limits using spatiotemporal singular value thresholding of long ensembles of ultrasound data. However, vessel images derived based on this method present severe intensity variations and additional background noise that limits visibility and subsequent processing such as centerline extraction and morphological analysis. The goal of this paper is to devise a method to enhance vessel-background separation directly on the power Doppler images by exploiting blood echo-noise independence.

The method called sub-Hertz analysis of viscoelasticity (SAVE) uses a compression device integrated with ultrasound imaging to perform in vivo ramp-and-hold uniaxial creep-like test on human breast in vivo. It models the internal deformations of tissues under constant surface stress as a linear viscoelastic response.

Ultrasound shear wave elastography is a technology capable of providing additional information related to the stiffness of tissues. In this study, quantitative stiffness values acquired by ultrasound shear wave elastography in two different imaging planes were evaluated for the prediction of malignancy in thyroid nodules.

Noninvasive measurement of tissue viscoelastic properties is gaining more attention for screening and diagnostic purposes. Recently, measuring dynamic response of tissue under a constant force has been studied for estimation of tissue viscoelastic properties in terms of retardation times. The essential part of such a test is an instrument that is capable of creating a controlled axial force and is suitable for clinical applications.

Additionally, the influence of prognostic histologic features (cancer grade, size, lymph node status, and histological type and grade) to the tumor elasticity and IHC profile relationship will be investigated.
Methods: Under an institutional review board (IRB) approved protocol, B-mode ultrasound (US) and comb-push ultrasound shear elastography (CUSE) were performed on 157 female patients with suspicious breast lesions.
Tissue stiffness is often linked to underlying pathology and can be quantified by measuring the mechanical transient transverse wave speed (TWS) within the medium. Time-of-flight methods based on correlation of the transient signals or tracking of peaks have been used to quantify the TWS from displacement maps obtained with ultrasound pulse-echo techniques. However, it is challenging to apply these methods to in vivo data because of tissue inhomogeneity, noise and artifacts that produce outliers.
