Snake venom C-type lectins (Snaclecs) display anticoagulant and platelet-modulating activities; however, their interaction with the critical components of blood coagulation factors was unknown. Computational analysis revealed that Echicetin (Snaclec from venom) interacted with heavy chain of thrombin, and heavy and light chains of factor Xa (FXa). Based on FXa and thrombin binding regions of Echicetin, the two synthetic peptides (1A and 1B) were designed.

Article Synopsis
  • A study evaluated a new non-invasive device called SAMIRA that can measure hemoglobin, bilirubin, and oxygen saturation in neonates without needing blood samples.
  • The device was tested on 4,318 newborns with conditions like anemia, jaundice, or hypoxia and its readings were compared to traditional blood tests done by clinicians.
  • It used Artificial Neural Networks for data analysis and showed high accuracy with correlation coefficients of 0.987 for hemoglobin and 0.988 for bilirubin and oxygen saturation, all within clinically acceptable limits.
