Background: Nutritional risk assessment is an essential component of primary health care screening, especially for pregnant women. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between maternal body mass index (BMI) and maternal anthropometric measurements in black South African pregnant women, both with and without human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Materials And Methods: A cross-sectional observational study design was used.

Comparing immunogenicity and safety following transition from reference rituximab to biosimilar rituximab (DRL_RI) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: a randomized, double-blind, phase 3 study.

Objectives: To assess immunogenicity and safety in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) transitioning from rituximab [US-licensed rituximab: Reference Product (RP); EU-approved rituximab: Reference Medicinal Product (RMP)] to DRL_RI (proposed rituximab biosimilar), in comparison to those continuing on RP/RMP.

Methods: This double-blind, randomized, Phase 3 study included 140 RA patients having prior exposure to RP/RMP; transitioned to DRL_RI (n = 70) or continued with RP/RMP (n = 70) for two 1000 mg infusions on Days 1 and 15. Assessments included Time-matched Rituximab Concentration (TMRC), anti-drug antibodies (ADAs), neutralizing antibodies (NAbs) and ADA titre over 12 weeks, and safety follow-up till 26 weeks.

Coincident Thyrotoxic Hypokalemic Periodic Paralysis and Cardiomyopathy.

Thyrotoxic periodic paralysis (TPP) and thyrotoxic cardiomyopathy (TCMP) are potentially lethal complications of thyrotoxicosis that require emergent recognition and management to attenuate significant morbidity and mortality. We present the case of a 23-year-old Asian male with no prior medical history who developed TPP with coincident TCMP, which was successfully managed with antithyroid and heart failure therapies. The clinician should be aware of the diagnosis and treatment of these 2 life-threatening conditions in a hyperthyroid state.

Myocardial Bridging-Induced Acute Coronary Syndrome: A Bridge Too Far.

Recent studies suggest a potential association between myocardial bridging (MB) and accelerated atherosclerotic plaque formation. We describe the case report of a 37-year-old South Asian male with no established risk factors for coronary artery disease (CAD) who presented with a non-ST-segment-elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS) with a coincident widowmaker lesion and severe MB. He was successfully managed with comprehensive guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) and urgent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of the culprit lesion, sparing the MB segment.

However, many of these instruments, including the Level of Service/Risk, Need, Responsivity (LS/RNR), are validated on predominantly Western populations, and research has questioned whether the factors included in the LS/RNR adequately capture the experiences and needs of non-Western communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. The current study aimed to canvas the opinions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community justice workers as to the suitability of the LS/RNR for use with this population.

We present the case of a 23-year-old man with a previous deceased-donor renal transplant maintained on tacrolimus and prednisone who developed culture-negative endocarditis (CNE) of the mitral and aortic valves. He was suspected of being co-infected with and , confirmed with serology testing. He was successfully managed with appropriate antibiotics and dual valve replacement.

The South African flag sign (SAFS) is an acute, dynamic electrocardiographic (ECG) finding typically associated with first diagonal (D) artery occlusion. We report the case of a 47-year-old woman who exhibited this pattern but subsequently revealed the dreaded "widow-maker" lesion (100% occluded proximal left anterior descending [LAD] artery) and severe multivessel disease (90% stenosis of the posterior left ventricular [PLV] artery and 80% stenosis of the left circumflex artery [LCx]).

A large body of research supports the role of the therapeutic alliance in predicting positive change in psychotherapy.
